DIRECTOR – ACADEMIC STUDENT INITIATIVES 
TRUMAN COLLEGE  

Truman College is seeking a Director of Director of Academic Student Initiatives to join our team.The Director works with key stakeholders at the district and college level to support strategies relating to tutoring and student academic success, implementing district wide initiatives that promote student retention, success, development, and enhanced learning opportunities.

The Director of Academic Student Initiativesworks closely with college administrators across campuses, supporting the expansion of initiatives that ensure equitable tutoring resources district-wide leading to increased student-success rates across the district.Performs related duties as required.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

·Implements strategies for academic student support projects designed to address the challenges that hinder student success.

·Collaborates with key college departments, faculty, and administrators to support Adult Education bridge programming and developmental education efforts.

·Works closely with Faculty Developmental Education committees to establish and maintain college-level processes that support developmental education students in successfully completing college-level coursework.

·Participates in annual co-curricular assessment planning with a key focus on foundational courses for students with developmental math and reading needs. 

·Collaborates with Department Chairpersons in reviewing and understanding the unique academic support needs in their academic areas and developing strategies to address the needs and promote academic student excellence.

·Implements initiatives to ensure the provision of academic support services across campuses equitably including embedded tutoring for development education coursework and test prep for early college placement exams.

·Supports tutoring needs for Truman’s Center of Excellence in Education, Center of Excellence in Scientific Technology + Innovation, and Education Workforce Centers across the district.

·Develops and implements standardized reporting practices district-wide to ensure accurate and consistent monitoring and tracking of student tutoring usage.

·Prepares reports to college and district leadership providing assessments of tutoring services and their impact on students successfully completing coursework and achieving academic success.

·Supervises and oversees the work of Coordinators, tutors, and clerical staff.

·Serves as the main point of contact for Coordinators on issues relating to tutoring and day to day operations of academic support and tutoring centers. 

·Facilitates communication between tutoring centers and the district-wide DERI team. 

·Provides professional development opportunities and on-going training to ensure coordinators and tutors are providing quality academic and customer service to students.

·Confers with management on issues relating to tutoring services, outlining plans and information on how to leverage full-time tutors beyond their normal tutoring duties.

·Serves as the lead on hiring full and part-time tutoring and academic support staff, working with HR on the hiring and onboarding of staff.

·Supports the Office of Instruction on grant work related to Academic Support Services, to include support in writing grants, collaboration on data management, and report writing.

·Assists the Dean with budget preparation, records expense requests, and informs Dean on any upcoming budget or staffing needs.

·Assists with district-wide strategic planning efforts for topics such as empowering directors, succession planning, relationship building with college counterparts, and best practices for creating tutor schedules.

·May support the Dean in offering professional development to faculty in relation to tutoring, embedded tutoring, and other academic support related areas.

·Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS :

·Master’s degree from an accredited college in a relevant academic field.

·Five years of work experience in higher education, preferably in a role that supported student success.

·Three years of experience in tutoring at the undergraduate level, with at least one year managing tutors and/or tutoring processes.

·Bilingual preferred

·Experience in developing or implementing programs designed to provide academic support to students with foundational or developmental educational level needs highly preferred

·Experience in using academic systems/technologies such as PeopleSoft/CS9 Student Information Systems and early alert tracking software desirable

·Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

·Strong organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills 

·Demonstrated capacity for data analysis to support and inform planning, decision making, and continuous improvement 

·Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusiveness, and equity in education

·Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
