Job Description

Tiffin Hospital - Full Time - Days

Installs, maintains, and repairs all refrigeration, cooling, air conditioning systems and equipment. Performs general, routine maintenance and servicing operations. Respects and maintains confidentiality. Supports the Core Values and Mission/Philosophy of the Sponsors.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Minimum Education – High School Graduate or equivalent.

Preferred Education – Graduate of a trade or technical school with courses in heating, ventilating, and air conditioning.

Required Certification - Must possess a Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification.

Preferred Certification - Certification at the universal technician level as required by 40 CFT, Part 82, Subpart F.

Preferred Experience - Previous HVAC experience. Sufficient previous experience in building maintenance and refrigerant recovery.

Required License - Must possess a valid Ohio Driver's License in order to travel by car for hospital business. Automobile must be insured in accordance with Mercy Tiffin Hospital's vehicle policy and procedure and is in good working order.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Inspects and operates refrigeration, cooling, and air conditioning systems and equipment to ensure all are functioning properly.

Installs new equipment and systems and repairs and maintains current equipment and systems as needed.

Monitors and inspects work to ensure compliance with codes and regulations.

Coordinates preventative maintenance with emergency and repair work activities. Inspects and operates refrigeration machinery, cooler, and freezer units. Regulates refrigerant and suction valves to increase or decrease amount of refrigerant in order to maintain desired degree of compression.

Maintains and repairs systems; tests efficiency of system and makes adjustments as needed to thermostatic controls and blowers. Keeps work areas orderly, clean, and safe. Ensures proper care in the use of equipment and supplies. Repairs valves, fixtures, and fittings. Cuts, bends, threads, pipes; fits threaded pipes with adjoining pipe assembles. Replaces washers, faucets and broken pipes. Caulks leaks, and augers clogged drains. Installs, maintains, and repairs sinks, showers, toilets, water heaters and other plumbing fixtures. Performs safety inspections of hospital equipment, e.g., electrical receptacles, electrical appliances and patient owned appliances.

Provides general assistance to other skilled tradesmen such as mechanics, electricians, carpenters, painter, plumbers, etc.

Reviews work orders, priority status, and designated times schedules. Keeps records of work performed, equipment and supplies used, etc. Prepares required reports. Applies cost-effective measures in the utilization of materials and time. Assures proper care in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies.

Maintains compliance with Joint Commission, federal, state and local standards and regulations. Maintains required documentation.

Uses personal protective equipment (PPE) when appropriate and ensures staff members are compliant.

Operates various types of maintenance tools and Equipment, mechanical and electrical, e.g., drills, saws, wrenches, screwdrivers and hammers. Climbs ladders to reach high areas. Performs manual labor as required.
