Description
The OR Technician assists other members of the health care team in the delivery of patient care during the intraoperative period.The major focus for the position is on preparation and handling of instrumentation and surgical equipment and assisting the surgeon within the limits of their scope of practice during the surgical procedure. Applies knowledge of growth and development in patient and family interactions.Administers care and use of equipment applicable to the age and needs of the patient population served (neonate through geriatric).
Qualifications
Graduate of a school of surgical technology is preferred; trained surgical tech; i.e. through a hospital program is required.Certification desirable, and prefer the individual has a goal and timeline for achieving Certification. CPR certification required.Prefer one year of operating room experience.Knowledge of specific procedures or specialties.Must be capable of prioritizing, planning and problem solving due to changing nature of the work situation during surgical procedures.Ability to recognize the need for immediate response during urgent or emergency situations.Excellent professional communication skills in dealing with patients/families, medical staff, peers and ancillary staff.Requires great degree of accuracy.Responsibility for maintaining confidentiality of material and information.Must maintain and respect patient/family privacy and confidentiality at all times.Knowledge of basic medical terminology, metric system, aseptic technique. Reasoning, math and language skills at the high school plus technical training level.
