Librarian - Ellis County

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Librarian for the Ellis County locations is responsible to the Dean of Library Services. This position shall provide leadership in matters concerning the library at the Waxahachie and Midlothian locations. This position will also provide day to day library services to students at both locations.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide reference research assistance in person and through electronic means to students, faculty, and other affiliated patrons at the Ellis County locations.  Through remote access and referral, facilitate access to other library collections. Create, develop, and provide training and instruction to students, staff, and faculty in the effective use of electronic and print information resources. Maintain current awareness of and ability to evaluate and use emerging information and library technologies. Participate in applying new technologies to the library. Promote library services to the college community, including meeting with faculty to develop and refine library-based assignments, creating and giving presentations, and developing and providing orientations. Supervise student workers and part-time library assistants. Create and maintain various educational materials online and in print. Assignment requires regular commute between both Ellis County locations. Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

Understanding of and commitment to academic librarianship Understanding of and commitment to the role of the community college Effective oral and written communication skills Experience with electronic information resources (online databases, internet resources, . Experience with and strong commitment to current library instruction methods Working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office applications Thorough knowledge of current and emerging information and library technologies Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as necessary Superior planning and organizational skills

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

MLS/MLIS/MIS degree from an ALA-accredited program at time of appointment

 Preferred

Professional experience in community college libraries Additional advanced degrees. MLS/MLIS/MIS degree with emphasis in academic librarianship. Experience with Dynix / Horizon software. Experience with Blackboard course management software. Experience developing online tutorials.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Variances from regular working hours may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Busy working environment with numerous interruptions. Assignment requires regular commute between both Ellis County locations.

SALARY: $65,000 annually (This is a 12 month position to be paid over 12 months)
