Charter Senior Living is looking for a dynamic and excited Executive Director with the drive and passion to develop the staff, resident census and community reputation. If you are looking for a company that is committed to their mission and not only talks to talks but walks the walk, this may be a perfect position for you. The ideal candidate for this position will have the ability to enhance the human spirit on a daily basis, rises to the challenge of managing their community to financial, regulatory and operational excellence. This person can manage the day to day business office, as well as, drive sales.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Executive Director is responsible for Enhancing the Human Spirit of the residents, families, associates and the community at large. This is accomplished by managing the day-to-day operations of the community, achieving high resident and associate satisfaction, ensuring high quality resident care/services are provided, creating a culture in the community that reinforces and lives our mission each and every day, ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal requirements, generating respect in the community for the community, ensuring smooth operation of the community, and generating the projected profit for the company by achieving and maintaining maximum occupancy of the community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Create a culture of exceptional care, where resident care and services are the priority of each associate every day. Monitor the quality of care and services by routinely interacting with residents, walking the community including visiting resident rooms, attending meals and resident activities. Achieve positive resident relations by responding promptly and appropriately to resident needs, requests, concerns, etc.
2. Promote and maintain positive relations with families, providing the necessary Executive Director interaction, including but not limited to, service plan meetings (if applicable), and quarterly family events. Host a re-occurring call/Zoom meeting with all families at least once a month, but more often if needed.
3. Conduct daily department leader meetings to focus on census, move-ins, move-outs, associate recognition and retention, Enhancing The Human Spirit, tours, associate attendance, daily labor hours, status of AR, resident/family concerns, life safety issues, employee injuries, resident accident/incidents and each department’s focus for the day.
4. As the sales leader, create and promote a culture of prospect centered selling. Conduct weekly marketing meetings to discuss two prospective residents as case studies, review move ins, professional events, prospective events, holiday & weekend sales coverage, and room readiness. Achieve a minimum of 4 moves a month. Direct and monitor the sales and outreach activity in Sherpa.
5. Develop and maintain an associate appreciation program, which celebrates associate’s anniversaries, birthday days and associates that live our mission of Enhancing the Human Spirit. Associate appreciation should be done on a monthly basis, if not more frequently, and should demonstrate our core value of Have Fun While Serving.
6. Assists with the budget development and adherence, as well as accurate forecasting of expenses and cost control. Anticipates and minimizes negative budget variances and deficits. Explores area of opportunity for increased revenue and expense reduction and works with the Regional Director of Operations on implementing these ideas.
7. Monitor staffing hours and overtime daily to ensure overtime is less than 2% of total labor. Adjust labor hours as necessary based on census and resident acuity. Do not utilize temporary staffing without approval of the Regional Director of Operations in advance.
8. Propose for approval contracted services, including the beauty shop, therapy services and other ancillary services as may be required and to direct and evaluate the performance of all service contractors in providing needed services.
9. Oversee that resident programs meet Charter standards and are designed to achieve resident satisfaction and to Enhance The Human Spirit by providing programs that cover all 7 types of engagement: Cognitive, Community, Creative, Motivational, Physical, Social and Spiritual.
10. Comply with all state and federal laws and regulations and all company rules and regulations regarding the care of the residents and operation of the community. Develop a positive rapport with all state regulatory representatives.
11. Ensure that the community participates in care conferences per state regulations or as needed due to a change in condition. This ensures that residents and families are informed and demonstrates our commitment to quality care.
12. Assist in the coordination of residents move-ins. Ensure the Welcome to The Family program has been implemented and all departments are completing their assigned tasks as part of the program.
13. Responsible for hiring, training, coaching, developing and motivating employees across all functional areas, while providing regular performance feedback.
14. Partners and consults with Regional Director of Operations and Human Resources regarding employee related matters including performance, disciplinary and termination matters. Ensure that all associates complete required Charter Orientation and all Relias trainings assigned to them.
15. The Executive Director is leader of the safety committee and is responsible for implementation and follow through of recommendations to provide a safe environment for residents, associates, and visitors.
16. Perform any additional job duties set by the Senior Leadership while completing all assigned duties which may change from time to time according to resident needs, staffing levels, working circumstances, and corporate directives.
17. Reports all reportable events in a timely manner to the appropriate agency per state regulations and to the appropriate Charter Leadership per Charter policies.
18. Manages and participates in the Manager On Duty program
19. Consistently communicates and collaborates with the Regional Director of Operations, Regional Director and Regional Director of Sales to make them aware of any barriers to success or any situations/problems that could have a negative impact are discussed and plan is put in place to resolve these matters.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Have a passion for serving seniors.
2. Must have appropriate professional license and license must be in good standing (i.e. Skilled Care, RCF, ALF, BH).
3. Must possess good communication and relationship building skills in order live, lead and demonstrate to others our mission of Enhancing The Human Spirit.
4. Must have an understanding of budgeting, financial record keeping and reporting, appropriate State and Federal regulations, operational systems and procedures and must be able to apply that understanding to ensure the smooth operation of the community.
5. A minimum of three (3) years prior experience in a management position operating retirement, assisted living or skilled nursing community, or related business.
6. High School diploma, higher education, and accompanied by specific training and/or certification in management activities.
7. Must possess a current state specific driver's license and appropriate driving record.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Good communication skills, verbal and written; English language skills adequate to allow communication with residents and staff, and to understand written and verbal instructions. Self-motivation.
- Proficiency in computer skills and ability to learn new applications: minimum skills include Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, and Excel)
- This is an on call position 24/7.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to easily lift and carry 50 lbs. Must be able to stand, walk, stoop and/or bend for periods of up to eight hours with breaks as provided for in the employee handbook Frequent transporting of residents in wheelchair
