About the Opportunity

Mills College at Northeastern University invites applications for a full-time, Open Rank, Non-Tenure Track Teaching Professor position of Director for the "Educators for Liberation, Justice, and Joy" Program at our Oakland, CA campus, launching in the Summer of 2024. The successful candidate will have both teaching and administrative responsibilities, reporting directly to the Chair of the Education and Humanities Unit.

About the Opportunity:

The Director will oversee and teach within an innovative teacher education program deeply committed to social justice, equity, and inclusion. Drawing upon critical theory in its varied forms, the program aims to empower educators to challenge systemic norms and foster equitable, globally connected communities.
 

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

Develop and oversee the program’s curriculum, in line with state and national standards and licensure requirements, with a strong commitment to anti-racist, culturally, gender, and linguistic inclusive pedagogy.Serve as the instructor for designated courses within the program.Engage in program evaluation, accreditation processes, and ongoing improvements.Lead faculty committee meetings related to program development and assessment.Collaborate with Education faculty and the Education and Humanities Unit to ensure alignment of program objectives and outcomes.Mentor and advise students, including those working on dissertations and other high-impact educational projects.Participate in departmental, college, and university service, especially those committees supporting the mission of the program, College, and wider University.

Requirements:

Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education or a related field by the appointment start date.5-10 years of leadership experience in higher education administration.A strong commitment to and experience in teaching at the graduate level, especially in public education.Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications:

Capacity for visionary leadership and collaborative community engagement.Proven success in working with educators in culturally and linguistically diverse urban schools.Strong teaching abilities and a dedication to continued improvement as an educator.Expertise in critical theory, including but not limited to critical race theory, critical language theory, critical feminist theory, and critical Latinx theory.Experience in online course development and instruction.Experience teaching at the graduate level.Teaching and developing curriculum and materials for on-ground and online courses.Possessing a disposition and vision to build upon the strengths of our credential program.Demonstrated capacity for leadership.Ability to collaborate with other faculty and local communities.Experience and interest in integrating technology in preparing educational leaders.
