Innova Solutions is seeking a full-time Fire Alarm Technician to join our client based in Norfolk, VA. In this role, you will install, program, perform system start-up/check-out, testing/commissioning, customer training and all associated documentation on assigned projects. As a Fire Alarm Technician, you are a part of a dynamic team that allows you to grow and enjoy our clients amazing culture.

What you’ll do:

Installs, programs, tests, repairs, and services a variety of systems and equipment which may include security, fire alarm & life safety, and/or building automation with guidance as needed. Working knowledge of blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation procedures. Interprets manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and repairs equipment utilizing knowledge of electronics and using standard test instruments and hand tools. Working understanding of building, mechanical, sprinkler and fire codes. Ability and willingness to coach and mentor less experienced colleagues. Operates systems to demonstrate equipment, commission new systems, analyze performance and identify malfunctions. Writes routine programs for systems. Consult with engineering personnel to resolve unusual/escalated issues in system operation, maintenance, and warranty work. May advise management regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, installation techniques and standards as well as suggestions for product improvements. Executes many of the technical aspects of multiple projects with varying timelines and budgets including programming, graphics development, start-up, certification testing, customer training, close-out documentation, and on-going technical support. Identifies potential project risks, communicates to appropriate parties, and assists in the development and implementation of strategies to minimize impact and to control deviations from estimated costs and project deadlines. Works with Fire Alarm Designer to ensure fire alarm system meets all relevant codes and standards. Works closely with the Project Manager and/or Operations Manager and assists in the overall coordination of specific projects; makes recommendations regarding quality of work and potential changes in scope and identifies ways to continuously improve customer satisfaction. What’s required: Exceptional customer focus and ability to work under pressure; ability to maintain awareness of and seek to meet the needs and wants of the customer without being prompted. Ability to convey complex subject matter to a non-technical audience. Willing to learn technical skills and/or experience related to fire alarm systems, and/or electronic security systems. Be a self-starter and work well with little supervision. Understanding of electronics to include Ohm’s law, resistor color code, and relay logic for control of third-party equipment. Solid mechanical and electrical aptitude (e.g. works with a variety of hand and power tools such as drill, screwdriver, wire stripper, hacksaw, crimper). Experience programming, troubleshooting, and commissioning Edwards or equivalent fire alarm systems ranging from small to medium complexity. Willingness to coach and mentor less experienced colleagues. A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Possess NICET Level II in Fire Alarm Systems. Possess low voltage electrical license as required by local/state authority. Ability to travel locally to jobsites on a regular basis. Minimal overnight travel may be required.
Qualifications:
Education: High School/GED or equivalent experience
Licenses & Certifications: Local/State Electrical License NICET Level II – Fire Alarm Systems Preferred Experience: (but not required): Associate degree in Electronics or related field including equivalent military experience 3-5 years relevant field service EST4 Certification


PAY RANGE AND BENEFITS:
Pay Range*: $72,000
*Pay range offered to a successful candidate will be based on several factors, including the candidate's education, work experience, work location, specific job duties, certifications, etc.
