Division: Vigo County Services FLSA Status: Non-Exempt/Regular/Full-time and Part-time Effective Date: July 2021 Position Summary Provide developmentally appropriate services to children age birth to three years, in a pleasant, nurturing childcare environment. Essential Duties/Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Establish trusting relationships with children and families. Provide direct care to enrolled children in order to maintain appropriate staff/child ratios. Assist with the planning and implementation of a program within a physical environment appropriate to meet the changing needs of infants and toddlers. Follow the lessons plans, developed by the teacher for the classroom. Provide evaluation and assessment to children and families, including developmental, family and social/medical assessments.  Provide information to parents about their child’s daily activities, assisting them to recognize their child’s developmental and individual needs. Serve as client advocate, providing support and case management services to facilitate successful referral and linkage to community resources. Maintain familiarity with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP); in cooperation with other staff plan, prepare and present nutritious meals and snacks to enrolled children. Assist with light housekeeping and sanitizing of facility to maintain a safe, clean, infection-free environment. Assist families in understanding and taking responsibility for the physical, mental health and nutritional needs of their children and themselves.  Maintain accurate, timely and complete records of client interactions, referrals and interventions utilized. Maintain quality assurance standards related to these records. Maintain level of service at assigned level and participate in reaching program goals and objectives. Participate in staff meetings, staff development activities and center committees as assigned. Maintain a high level of ethical conduct regarding confidentiality. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications/Requirements Associate degree from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education. Or a CDA or comparable credential with 5 years’ experience in working with infants and toddlers. Knowledge and skills in areas of child growth and development, parent education, interpersonal skills and written and oral communication. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Completion of CPR/First Aid certification. Re-certification of CPR/First Aid as required. Physical Demands PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to manage job stresses, including performance and paperwork expectations and unexpected situations. Work Environment Work is done primarily (85%) in a licensed child care center setting where activity level may be high and space is somewhat limited. Requires constant alertness to children’s movement and quick action to intervene when necessary. Exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids and head lice is possible. Requires high level of stamina. Some time is spent completing visits in families’ homes throughout Vigo County. Conditions of Employment Completion of tuberculin screening no later than three days prior to first day of employment and annually thereafter Completion of MMR, Varicella, influenza and coronavirus vaccine Completion of a pre-employment drug screening and completion of post-employment drug or alcohol tests upon reasonable suspicion of use. Completion of Center-wide orientation and ALL required paperwork prior to reporting for work Demonstrated computer literacy through successful completion of pre-employment testing may be required. Completion of HCI Commitment to Quality training, Trauma Informed Care, and Relias Learning. Attendance at all mandatory staff development and training Successful completion of a six month on the job orientation period Participation in payroll electronic deposit Adherence to all policies, procedures, rules and regulations set forth by Hamilton Center, Inc. Satisfactory completion of an Indiana FSSA Bureau of Child Care National Criminal fingerprinting background check, Indiana State Criminal History Check, Sex and Violent Offender Registry check, Child Protection Services History check and Local law enforcement agency/county sheriff check at the time of hire and every four years (or at contract renewal if more than one year has passed since last fingerprinting) for any employee that has direct contact on a regular and continuing basis with children enrolled in EHS services.  Satisfactory reference and driving background investigation checks.
