JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for performing nuclear medicine procedures as well as other imaging duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Schedules and coordinates patient exams. Prepares and injects radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic imaging procedures. Processes diagnostic imaging procedures and records radiopharmaceutical administration to patients. Receives and records appropriate information regarding receipts of radioactive materials and pharmaceuticals. Requests and coordinates all necessary patient information including medical chart, charge slips. Performs quality assurance procedures on the equipment on a daily basis including daily/weekly surveys and wipe testing procedures as required. Ensures compliance with the radioactive materials licensure requirements. Maintains strictest confidentiality.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE and REGISTRATION: 

Graduate of an AMA approved school of nuclear medicine. Registered by either the ARRT (in Nuclear Medicine) or NMTCB required. Arkansas driver's license within 30 days of hire. Current Arkansas State Nuclear Medicine Technologist License required.  BLS Required

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Knowledge of nuclear medicine technology technical principles and procedures. Knowledge of quality care standards for nuclear medicine. Knowledge of safety requirements for staff, patients, and visitors. Skilled in injecting radiopharmaceuticals intravenously for imaging procedures. Skilled in using computer network system competently to process patient and department information. Skilled in assuming responsibility for safety factors. Ability to explain procedures clearly and simply to patients.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Must interact and communicate both verbally and in written form. Must interact and exchange information regarding patients with physicians and other departmental personnel, and outside agencies on a frequent basis while respecting the confidentiality of patient information.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position involves potential exposure to infectious diseases. Colleagues are offered appropriate vaccinations and safety training. This position involves the potential exposure to radiopharmaceuticals and therefore required to wear monitoring device at all times.
