Under the general supervision of the Investment Manager, the Investment Analyst will join SUA’s investment office to support and advance the work of the investment office. The Investment Analyst directly works on various projects to help with the day-to-day management of SUA’s global portfolio of investments, assisting in managing a comprehensive global portfolio across all major asset classes, including private equity, venture capital, public equities, hedge funds, real assets, natural resources, distressed opportunities, and fixed income. Seeking candidates who are interested in pursuing a career in broadly the worlds of business, finance, and/or asset management.

Essential duties include but are not limited to:

Portfolio Management (50%)

Monitoring and helping manage relationships with existing investment pools. This includes extensive work on systems of record, analysis of changes in manager relationships, strategy, scope, and other core investment functions. Collecting, calculating and analyzing statistical information on investment managers. Assisting in the preparation of materials for board meetings. Developing analytical models to support portfolio management. Maintaining models for annual audit, fee analysis, manager performance, and quarterly reporting. Maintaining files for investments (quarterly and annual reports, K-1s, 1099’s, legal documents, correspondence).

Due Diligence (30%)

Performing extensive due diligence, both qualitatively and quantitatively, on promising new markets and investment opportunities. Sourcing and conducting due diligence on potential new investment opportunities across asset classes globally by meeting with individual managers and attending various investment conferences. Developing networks and relationships to strengthen sourcing and market mapping within all asset class strategies. Developing substantial research reports on investment themes, sectors, and regions.

Other Functions (20%)

Attending external meetings as a university representative. Overseeing the wiring of funds as related to investments. Development of ad hoc and/or bespoke analyses for endowment management. Other functions may be assigned as needed at the direction of the Senior Investment Office Staff.

May include travel both domestically and internationally. Working hours are 5-days a week in office unless traveling.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or a related field required.  Master’s degree in finance, accounting or related fields; or MBA preferred.

Experience

Minimum of 2- 3 years of finance, asset management, due diligence or similar professional experience. 5+ years of experience in fields noted above preferred. Other qualifications, including Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or showcasing of efforts to achieve the qualification, preferred.

Competencies/Skills:

Highly developed, demonstrated knowledge of global financial markets and the broad range of investment structures and security types, including alternatives (absolute return/hedge funds and private equity funds). Strong knowledge of asset class and manager assessment methodologies. Knowledge of investment and risk management concepts. Strong work ethic and attention to detail. Quantitative and analytic skills. Capacity to work well independently and with a team in a high-pressure fast paced environment. Ability to handle confidential matters and exercise diplomacy and discretion. Ability to maintain multiple priorities, projects and adhere to stringent deadlines. Outstanding oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in systems and software utilizing databases, word processing, graphics, spreadsheets, to include MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and other software. Familiarity with other financial software is a plus. Capacity for developing and sustaining effective relationships with students, administrators, faculty, staff, parents, as well as a variety of outside organizations. Strong evidence of a spirit of collegiality and a strong service orientation. High ethical and professional standards.

Soka University of America offers excellent benefits. Salary range for this position is $80,000 to $95,000 and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
