Job Summary

We are seeking a Manager/Sr. Manager for our Discovery site located Durham, NC .


Oversee the In Vivo Operations Department, encompassing In Vivo Technical and Formulations Department, with responsibility for monitoring the overall conduct and quality of activities performed in support of non-clinical research studies. These responsibilities include submitting and reviewing operational SOP’s and adherence, recruitment of staff, working collaboratively with other departments, and continuous improvement of processes and structure to meet business objectives.

The following are responsibilities related to the Manager/Sr. Manager :

Align in vivo operations to the needs of the business through performance and structural optimization.  Drive operational efficiencies through operational evaluation and improvement to include changes in process and introduction of new digital tools. Anticipate business operational problems and initiate discussions for improvements. Work directly across departments to address communication, quality, or technical issues. Represent in vivo activities in client related communications, presentations, and meetings as needed. Responsible for personnel management activities such as: scheduling, personnel actions (hiring, promotions, transfers, etc.), training and development, providing regular direction and feedback on performance, disciplinary actions and preparing and delivering annual performance and salary reviews. Develop short- and long-range operating objectives, organizational structure, staffing requirements and succession plans. Adhere to departmental budget expenditures. Develop and oversee the implementation of departmental training programs related to business operations, including orientation. Manage activities of assigned group(s) to ensure optimum performance of the group/function. Assess work volume; assign projects and guide laboratory activities. Coordinate study scheduling with Study Directors, research technicians, and the other support lab groups. Coordinate with Animal Services to ensure proper animal welfare Coordinate with veterinary staff to ensure AAALAC and IACUC adherence Provide leadership and support to technical staff in the solution of specific project-related problems. Provide hands on assistance to research staff as needed. Design and implement new methods & processes to solve project-related problems (i.e., task coordination, innovation, methodology, resource sharing, brainstorming, etc.). Act as a consultant on technical issues & provide innovative project-related solutions. Perform in-life technical procedures, therapeutic agent administration, and care for all animals, if needed Provide animal welfare assessments, including body weight and tumor volume measurement, if needed Provide perioperative animal care, including analgesia and anesthesia administration, if needed Work with facility manager and EH&S to maintain a safe and high-quality laboratory environment. Ensure adherence to pertinent regulatory requirements and to departmental policies, practices and procedures [SOPs, safety procedures and biosafety protocols].

Job Qualifications


The following are minimum qualifications related to the Manager position:


Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in Animal Science or related discipline.
Experience: 7 to 10 years related technical experience in a non-clinical research laboratory with experience supervising in a laboratory environment. 5 years management/supervisory experience.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
Certification/Licensure: LATG preferred, applicable certifications & licensure preferred.
Other: Strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.


The pay range for this position is $90,000 to $125,000. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
