Overview

A radiologist is a physician who practices his/her medical specialty using a variety of medical imaging technologies to diagnose and treat disease. Depending on the subspecialty (as directed by the Chief, Department of Radiology) daily work may consist of a variety of tasks that include the use of imaging technologies such as radiography, fluoroscopy, Computed Tomography, MRI, ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine (with injection of radioactive materials), and Interventional Radiology to provide information to radiologists and referring physicians that aid in the diagnosis and course of treatment of disease. Radiologists are responsible for performance of teaching, research, and administrative duties as assigned by the Chief of Radiology.

Responsibilities

-General Radiography: Prescribe, analyze, interpret, and render dictated reports for plain radiographic examinations-Ultrasound: Prescribe, physically perform ultrasound procedures, as well as analyze, interpret, and render dictated reports for ultrasound examinations -Fluoroscopy: Prescribe and physically perform fluoroscopic procedures, as well as analyze, interpret, and render dictated reports for fluoroscopic examinations-Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI): Prescribe, analyze, interpret, and render dictated reports for MRI examinations-Computed Tomography (CT): Prescribe, analyze, interpret, and render dictated reports for CT examinations-Nuclear Medicine: Prescribe, analyze, interpret, and render dictated reports for nuclear medicine examinations-Interventional Radiology: Prescribe, physically perform interventional radiology procedures, as well as analyze, interpret, and render dictated reports for interventional radiology examinations.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED-Education requirement: Successful completion of medical school training with M.D./D.O. degree (or equivalent international medical school degree). Successful completion of an accredited (ACGME/AOA/or equivalent international accreditation) Diagnostic Radiology residency.-Fellowship: Successful completion of a Pediatric Radiology Fellowship-Medical license: Medical license in the State of Ohio-Certification: Board certified/board eligible in Diagnostic Radiology and Certificate of Added Qualification in Pediatric Radiology (or equivalent), certificates granted by The American Board of Radiology/The American Osteopathic Board of Radiology/ or equivalent international certification.-Ability to perform procedures: Radiologist subspecialty responsibilities are determined by the Chief of Radiology, based on subspecialty expertise and the needs of The Department of Radiology, Nationwide Children?s Hospital. Physical requirements for completion of subspecialty procedures are indicated in section ?Minimum Physical Requirements?.
