POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Student Life at Concordia is a 12-month, live-in position reporting to the Vice President of Student Development and is responsible for providing programming and student engagement across campus through Student Activities, Clubs & Orgs, and Intramural Sports. This student-facing position focuses on the equitable development of a diverse population of students, and creating memorable events and experiences that align with the university’s mission.
POSITION FUNCTIONS
Campus Engagement:
Ensures students have opportunities to connect, build relationships and continue traditions through campus events including but not limited to student clubs, organizations, activities, intramurals, and Supports coordination for campus-wide events including planning, developing, promoting, and evaluating campus-wide programs and services. Communicates plans with students, faculty and staff through social media, monthly calendar and internal communications.Leadership:
Supervises student worker teams to support campus engagement, including hiring, training, and evaluating work performance. Facilitates on-going training and support for student clubs and organization leadership. Facilitates relationships with staff and faculty advisors for student clubs and organizations to provide support and training. Provides leadership development to student workers and collaborates with other departments to support student leadership development.Operational Administration:
Maintains accurate records of the Office of Student Life budgets, event tracking, and planning documents. Collaborates with the Vice President of Student Development to develop departmental goals, objectives, operations and processes in alignment with University policies. Manages the Campus Groups data platform and provides training opportunities for users. Collaborates with other campus event planners and schedulers to meet student development goals when coordinating student events.Compliance:
Monitors and maintains compliance for student programs and organization, focusing on aligning all events and activities with institutional Collaborates with the Vice President of Student Development and Dean of Students to coordinate the publication and dissemination of a Student Organization Handbook and Advisor Handbook. Regularly reviews and provides feedback on all associated student organization policies to the Vice President of Student Development. Participates in the judicial process when requested as it pertains to student club or organization discipline.POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education or a related field. Master’s level preferred. Minimum 1-2 years of professional experience working directly with higher education students in the area of campus engagement, student affairs, or related experiences. Availability to work some evenings and weekends for events and on-call professional staff coverage in the Residence Halls. Candidate will live on-site in the residence hall apartment (2 bedroom) and support the on-call professional staff rotation. They will act as a reporter for code of conduct violations, and assists to resolve conflict issues where appropriate. Knowledge of and/or ability to quickly learn a variety of office technologies (MS Office, Banner, Maxient, Target X, Campus Groups) Knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong conflict resolution, problem solving, and critical thinking skills with the ability to make difficult decisions, maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgement. Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students, staff and faculty across campus. Ability to show initiative, independence, and productivity within the work environment. Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and effective customer service skills. Ability to establish relationships and communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff. Ability to participate as well as lead projects, committees, taskforces, and workgroups. Ability to exercise sound judgment and exhibit strong integrity in making decisions. Ability to work well independently or collaboratively as a member of the team. Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and multi-task with minimal supervision.
