Pharmacy Tech II Full Time Rotating Position Summary

Provides distributive pharmacy services and technical support for the pharmacist. Must be able to work a rotating schedule to include both day and evening shifts.

Responsibilities

Refills and maintains automated dispensing systems.

Prepares orders and maintains inventory for the pharmacy department.

Repackages bulk medications.

Receives and stores incoming supplies.

Answers telephone, respond to pharmacy window, makes stat deliveries as needed, and performs monthly inspections as assigned.

Accurately prepares IV admixtures and other sterile products (. TPN /Chemo/ Ophth)- if applicable.

Replenishes and replaces expired medications in various carts/code carts/boxes/trays/kits. 

Bills and credits medications and IV solutions.

Assist in training new technicians.

Performs other duties as assigned.

PHARMACY TECH II FULL TIME ROTATING CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING EDUCATION, LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION

Required: Pharmacy Technician Licensure by the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy.

EDUCATION

Required: Must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or the equivalent of a high school diploma, and pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) examination or another Board approved Pharmacy Technician examination.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required: Must be able to work variable shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred: At least six (6) months of recent related experience. Knowledge of hospital pharmacy, computer order entry, IV admixture, and unit dose medications.

This individual’s responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Accurately fill and label medication orders with correct strength, dosage form, and quantity in a timely manner. Accurately stock automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs) in a timely manner. Fill/refill emergency crash carts, boxes, and kits timely and accurately. Re-package and label oral medications/extemporaneous preparations and maintain appropriate records. Respond appropriately to requests for STAT orders, routine orders, department requests, and ADC stock out bulletins. Assure all medications are checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing. Stock medications into pharmacy inventory, including sterile compounding areas. Maintain adequate medication stock levels and proper storage of medications. Deliver medications to patient care areas. Attend to medication requests and phone calls. Prepare complex IV admixtures (., chemotherapy, biotherapy) accurately, consistent with IV policies and procedures (USPless than797> and USPless than800> ). Comply with state and federal regulatory requirements, Joint Commission standards and Tenet and hospital policies and procedures. Assist in performing various duties as assigned.

Education:

Required: High school graduate or equivalent

Experience:

Required: 3 years of pharmacy experience
Preferred: 2 years of hospital experience

Certifications:

Required: Registered Pharmacy Technician license or Pharmacy Technician certification, as required by state law. Accredited training in sterile products preparation and IV Admixture Certification

Physical Demands:

Lift/position up to 50 lbs. Push/pull up to 50 lbs. of force. Frequent standing and walking. Frequent reaching, stooping, and bending. Manual dexterity, mobility, touch, auditory to perform all the related duties of the position.
