Texas Oncology is looking for a full-time Regional Genetic Program Counselor to join our team The ideal candidate will reside in the Austin, Texas or DFW areas. What does this position do? The Regional Genetic Program Counselor is a Board Genetic Counselor who provides genetic counseling and education to individuals with a personal and/or family history of cancer; and, also provides operational and educational support to practice providers in their defined region. The Regional Program Genetic Coordinator provides competency in cancer genetics by offering educational and operational support to the practice sites that have active gentic programs or are initiating genetic programs. The coordinator ensures quality patient care, leads activities and operations associated with the provision of high quality and cost effect genetic counseling services. The regional program coordinator works with the Director of Genetics, Medical Director, other Regional Genetic Program Coordinators and the Operational Excellence Team to support multiple service delivery models with the goal of high quality cancer genetics care for practice patients. The program coordinator supports and adheres to the US Oncology (USON) Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. Responsibilities The essential duties and responsibilities: Assess the genetics educational needs of individual Practitioners and practices and provide basic thorough advanced cancer genetics education to practice providers. Mentor practices and provide education. This may be done through one on one teaching, site visits, phone conference/WebEx, shadowing patient visits, and/or educational conferences. Consults with oncology providers regarding genetics patients as needed. Provides operational on- boarding and education to practice Sites and providers who initiate a genetics (GREAT) program in order to expand the Genetic (GREAT) Program. Ongoing assessment of competency through provider and/or practice audits and maintain quarterly Oncology genetic (GREAT) metrics for designated region. Develops and maintains patient and provider educational resources and literature. Develops and maintain marketing materials needed for the genetic (GREAT) program. Deliver clinical and scientific presentations to community groups as needed. Actively participate in The USON Genetics (GREAT) Program through involvement in its Genetic (GREAT) Steering Committee, its Annual Genetic (GREAT) Education Conference, its Genetic (GREAT) Monthly Case Conferences and its genetic (GREAT) subcommittees as needed. Actively encourage practice providers to participate in The USON's genetic (GREAT) programs as listed above. Provides direct patient care as needed. Provides genetic counseling to patients and families with personal or family history of cancer. Collects medical and family information from patients. Develops detailed pedigree and model analysis in order to analyze inheritance patients and assess risk for a hereditary cancer syndrome and risk for cancer. Coordinates genetic testing, including obtaining insurance approvals as needed. Reviews results with patients, physicians, nurses, social workers and other clinicians and participates in the development of treatment plans as appropriate. Provides long term follow up to patients as necessary. Qualifications The ideal candidate for this position will have the following background and experience: Masters Degree in Medical Genetics/Counseling including clinical experience from an accredited genetics counseling training program Board certified (or eligibility for certification) from the American Board of Genetic Counseling or American Board of Medical Genetics. Minimum five years as a practicing genetic-counselor Oncology experience preferred. Knowledge of hereditary cancer risk assessment programs (example: Tyer Cuzick) and pedigree drawing software (e: CRA Health or Progeny) is preferred.
