What You’ll do 
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is a growing business within Lightsource bp’s portfolio. As the US Head of BESS Commercialization, you will support the regional BESS pipeline development, ensuring that project progression aligns with the organisation’s portfolio-level objectives and strategic goals. Working directly with market leads and senior management, the Head of BESS Commercialization will be responsible for shaping the delivery of BESS projects. This role is a commercial leader within the business, facilitating knowledge sharing between regions and supporting the growth of this exciting development arm.
Duties and responsibilities
• Work with regional leadership, country heads, and key functional leads to define Lightsource bp’s regional BESS strategy and portfolio objectives
• Lead BESS business commercialization efforts for standalone BESS projects and support hybrid commercial opportunities as appropriate
• Manage a team of analytical and technical resources to support the BESS business in the US
• Engage up and down the organisation to build alignment and support for the BESS strategic direction and portfolio objectives 
• Support country heads with defining, tracking and presenting project priorities in line with the agreed strategy to allow the leadership team to finalise commercial BESS decisions
• Provide functional assurance at key project gatekeeping points to ensure project progression matches BESS portfolio objectives
• Identify market-level development pain points and collaborate with regional leadership to find solutions
• Monitor market and industry trends, pricing, and competitor activities, including regulatory/financial incentives, PPA pricing, and structured financing transactions 
• Facilitate knowledge sharing and lessons learned between regions through communities of practice and other platforms
• Support teams to optimize LSbp offerings for BESS offtake opportunities and tenders
• Enable the growth of new BESS opportunities in our current and future markets by providing new regional leaders the tools and expertise necessary to accelerate country-level BESS development
Who we’re looking for  

Technical & Commercial Skills:
• Structuring of storage contracts
• Strong analytical/financial knowledge to oversee modelling of storage revenue scenarios
• Deep understanding of all phases of BESS development
• Good commercial knowledge of how to structure BESS projects including possible revenue pathways and techno-economic optimisation
• Ability to take a holistic view of projects and understand portfolio-level implications
• Prior deal history and existing relationships in the utility-scale storage sector are strongly preferred

Interpersonal Skills: 
• Ability to work closely with and communicate effectively to senior management 
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to define strategies and secure stakeholder buy-in
• Strong leadership skills in order to champion this new opportunity 
• Strong sense of urgency and “hustle” 
• Ability to prioritize work based on required deliverables and due dates 
• Ability to organize team workload and priorities to maximum effect 
• Flexibility in a fast-paced business which is constantly changing
• Ability to pick up systems and processes quickly
