JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education : High School Diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Work Experience : 2+ years related experience in food preparation, cooking and principles of sanitation and safety preferred.

Required Licenses / Certifications : Food handler's certificate. Or will need to obtain and maintain a current food handler's certificate within 30 days of hire. BLS also required within 90 days of hire.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities : Must have knowledge of cash handling. Must be able to work expediously and accurately. Must be able to work well with people, maintain composure during stressful times, and take direction from supervisors.

BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Under direct supervision of chef or supervisor, prepares and serves food for internal and external customers. Food is prepared, served, held and stored at proper temperatures and under sanitary conditions. Responsible for overall sanitation of cafe equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Prepares special baking items as needed. All food preparation for next day meal is complete and accurate by end of present day's shift. All problems with equipment are reported to proper authorities as soon as possible. Follows standardized recipes and produces a consistent product. All sanitation guidelines are strictly followed regarding handling of food. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment. Works cooperatively with the serving staff insuring high quality food is being served and proper portions are being maintained. Follows all procedures assigned by Supervisor. Ability to make appropriate use of time, to get the customers through the line quickly. Gives appropriate attention to complaints/requests and needs. Washes and sanitizes utensils and equipment at the end of each shift. Records temperature of refrigerator at the beginning and end of each shift and records on log sheets. Responsible for cleaning and proper use of equipment and reports repairs as needed. Receives cash from customers as they are served. Makes proper change. Balances drawer daily with a $2.00 margin. Demonstrates the ability to communicate the hospital's mission, vision and values, as well as departmental goals, to all staff.
