Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Department Manager, the Cardiac Tech is responsible for obtaining and processing EKGs on infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in the following areas: Cardiology, DEM, PACU, ICU, MSSS, Medical-Surgical units, and any other physician ordered area. The Cardiac Tech tech is also responsible for correctly applying holter monitoring devices on all age groups. Cardiac Techs support physicians by operating imaging equipment that helps inform the physician of any important diagnostic information before, during or after medical procedures. The essential functions of the Cardiac Tech are:

Essential Functions:

 - Operates all EKG machines according to department standards to obtain satisfactory EKG tracings for infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

 - Recognizes malfunctions and troubleshoots minor problems according to policy and alerts necessary personnel immediately for major problems for prompt correction.

 - Understands daily maintenance of equipment and performs tasks, as assigned, promptly and completely to ensure readiness for the next shift.

 - Operates and troubleshoots copying equipment according to the established guideline copies and continuous availability.

 - Processes procedures to ensure accurate billing. - Processes MUSE reports according to department policy to ensure proper reading and distribution. - Notifies appropriate physicians, according to department policy, to do STAT and routine readings and to receive requested reports. - Files reports promptly and accurately to maintain an effective file system. - Understands MUSE storage system to obtain department reports quickly, as requested. - Deals effectively with patients and family, exhibiting understanding and good communication skills to ensure positive patient care. - Recognizes signs and symptoms of heart attack and administers CPR as necessary.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
High School Diploma/GED And Over 6 months to 1 year Overall knowledge of EKG techniques, required

Licenses and Certifications:
Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Within 2 weeks of hire, required
