Adjunct Faculty, Horticulture

Campus Location: multiple locations

Work schedule: consistent with MCCC contract

MCCC unit position. 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The STEM and Business Division invites applications for adjunct faculty to teach in our Horticulture Program beginning in Fall 2024. Courses are offered to be taught in-person at our campus in Lynn, MA.

Current opening is for HRT 101 Introduction to Turf.

We anticipate teaching opportunities in future semesters as well.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teach courses as assigned by the Division Dean.Prepare course syllabi, proctor and grade course assessments as scheduled, report final student grades, and complete student alerts by the specified dates each semester.Develop and apply assessment strategies that maximize the learning process and measure student learning outcomesEmbrace the ideals of diversity and inclusiveness and support the equal rights of all people by advancing the understanding and appreciation of differences including age, race, gender, ability, religious convictions, socio-economic status, ethnic heritage, or sexual orientation.Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.


Requirements:

Bachelor's degree or higher in Horticulture, Turfgrass Science and Management, or related field.Evidence of commitment to and experience working with a diverse student bodyCandidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.

PREFERENCES

Massachusetts Pesticide Applicator LicenseCommercial Irrigation and Hydroseeding experienceUnderstanding of turfgrass physiology and soil science principles, including the soil food web, principles of integrated pest management, pest and disease management, water resources, and irrigation.Experience in producing and maintaining grassed areas, including golf courses, home lawns, parks, and other athletic fields.Knowledge and identification of New England turfgrass, weeds, and seed identification from hardiness zones 5b - 7a. Familiarity with herbariums.Knowledge of sustainable turfgrass management practices, including best management practices for environmental and water resources.Evidence of successful prior teaching. Community College teaching experience strongly preferred.Experience with Blackboard or similar Learning Management SystemPredisposition to working in a dynamic environment requiring flexibility, adaptability, and teamworkEffective communication and interpersonal skills


Additional Information:

SALARY: Adjunct salaries are dependent upon the number of credit hours. This is a non-benefited, MCCC position.

STARTING DATE: The Fall session begins in September 2024
