Position: Kitchen Supervisor

Department: Food and Beverage

Job Summary: Supervises kitchen staff as well as cooks and/or assists with

the preparation of food orders guests of assigned outlet.

Duties and Responsibilities (specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to):

Performs supervisory responsibilities such as planning, assigning, and directing work; conducting training programs; evaluating performance; and handling team member relations matters. Assists Food and Beverage management in collaborating with team members on the design of professional development plans that support their continuous learning. Participates in the planning of and preparation for regularly scheduled meetings with team members. Enforces performance standards, policies, and procedures relating to Food and Beverage; ensures compliance with food and kitchen-related safety regulations. Oversees line and prep stations to ensure that all the ingredients and necessary components for the menu items to be prepared during the shift are ready at the start of the shift (mise en place); assists when necessary. Cooks or assists line cooks in cooking good food in a speedy and organized manner. Maintains a clean cooking area, including clean, sharp, and organized utensils. Maintains a high standard of professionalism and works well with the kitchen staff to expedite guest orders promptly and accurately. Follows established proper kitchen procedures; clarifies policy before proceeding. Ensures necessary high quality inventory is available, when needed. Recommends menu items and production procedures for the Back of House and assists with controlling costs and managing the budget. Ensures completion of projects in a timely manner working independently or with other team members. Completes a shift report after each shift; documents shift accomplishments and issues for manager’s review and/or action. Posts and distributes memos from other departments making sure staff are aware of important information. Assists with maintaining the department filing system by filing memos, correspondence, and other documents. Participates in on-going professional and personal development activities to keep up with trends in the industry as well as for self-improvement. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of applicable food and beverage related regulations as well as the Gaming Enterprise Division’s internal controls, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices. Knowledge of purchasing, inventory control, and scheduling practices. Knowledge of modern inventory, filing, and recordkeeping practices and procedures. Knowledge of budgetary principles and practices. Computer proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet applications. Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills. Skill in exercising independent judgment and initiative. Skill in developing and maintaining good working relationships. Ability to work with little or no supervision. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to exercise sound judgment and be fiscally prudent in accomplishing assigned tasks. Ability to use an extensive variety of food preparation and office equipment. Ability to perform basic mathematical computations pertaining to the position. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to work in a fast paced environment that may be may be stressful at times. Ability to lift 30 pounds, with or without a reasonable accommodation. Ability to stand and walk for most of the work day. Ability to stoop, bend, walk, reach objects above shoulder height and use hands.

Mandatory Requirements:

Two years of cooking experience in a hospitality environment Must pass a pre-employment Math and Writing assessment test with a minimum of 85% proficiency. Must obtain valid food handler’s and alcohol awareness cards within 90 days of employment. Must obtain ServSafe certification within 90 days of employment. Computer proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet applications. Demonstrated track record of reliability, responsiveness, and punctuality. Must be able to work any shift, weekends, holidays, special events, and overtime, as needed. Must have employment eligibility in the Must be able to obtain, maintain, and retain a valid gaming license.

Preferred Requirements:

One year of supervisory experience.
