About this Position

The Crime Analyst is responsible for helping the Edmond Police Department to solve crimes through data analysis. This crime analyst job consists of organizing, updating, analyzing, and tracking data about crimes to help determine patterns, trends, or areas of concern (including groups or individuals under reasonable suspicion). The Crime Analyst will work with the Patrol Division Major and other Police personnel to present crime information and provide administrative support.

On the job training is on-going for new Crime Analysts, and their work is subject to peer review. They will be occasionally required to work under stressful and hazardous conditions.

Responsibilities

Research and analyze crime data using the Internet, software, and police documents Utilize social media and data-sharing systems to obtain, organize, and track information Prepare reports, graphs, and maps based on data Create, update, and organize confidential documentation Prepare documentation to assist with staffing/resource allocation Assist during presentations of crime information (this may include testifying in court) Assist with the design, testing, and/or maintenance of databases, analytical software, hardware, and peripheral equipment Recommend proactive measures for crime prevention Complete Crime Analyst certification or training within one year Communicate with citizens and law enforcement Attend meetings with other Police divisions, criminal justice organizations, and applicable groups

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent Broad knowledge of a specialized field, equivalent to a four-year college degree 2 years of related experience and/or training (data analysis, results interpretation, data presentation, etc.) or equivalent combination of education and experience 12 to 18 months of related management experience people and/or project management Certified Law Enforcement Analyst (CLEA) or a Criminal Intelligence Certified Analyst (CICA) (preferred) Valid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier

Good mathematical ability Strong written communication skills to convey technical information clearly Excellent interpersonal communication skills Strong computer skills to learn and operate specialized software Knowledge of the following: Principles and techniques of crime analysisProper practices and methods of data collection, processing, preservation, and retention Ability to work independently Ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to meet the required physical standards for this position Ability to pass background investigation and polygraph exam
