The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE), at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), is accepting applications from candidates for an intermittent, remote research position at the Faculty Associate level. The candidate is expected to work collaboratively with existing department faculty and staff members, provide mentorship and research assistance for graduate students, and maintain an active research program.
Primary duties include:
Planning, acquiring, installing, and maintaining cyber-physical systems experimental testbeds components such as software-defined radios, sensors, embedded systems, and network equipment. Reverse engineering of hardware and software to assist in troubleshooting and research. Providing technical support for student research for MS theses and/or PhD dissertations. Writing technical reports and presentations as a co-author and presenting the results of scientific research. Developing instructional materials to support short and graduate courses in the above-specified technical areas. Occasional delivery of education and training courses, as negotiated with the hiring organization.Who May Apply? All U.S. Citizens
NPS is a fully accredited graduate school with students from all U.S. military services, as well as foreign military officers. U.S. citizenship is required. Salary is highly competitive and includes a generous locality allowance. Monterey is a short drive south from the San Francisco Bay area and is ideally situated along the spectacular central California coast.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applicants with foreign education will be required to select from a list of private organizations that are members of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES), which provide foreign education evaluations acceptable to NPS.
This is an intermittent position that is eligible for full telework.
Minimum Qualifications include:
An earned graduate degree in a discipline that supports the research line and departmental thesis needs such as: A master’s degree from an ABET-accredited institution in engineering, electrical engineering, electronics engineering, computer engineering, computer science, systems engineering, or related fields Demonstrated aptitude of scientific research in application of theories, principles, practical concepts, systems and processes.Preferred Experience in embedded systems engineering, programming, hardware and/or software reverse engineering, wireless communications, radar, or related fields. Teaching experience in scientific field.
Condition of Employment:
The ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance. The ability to travel (to Monterey and/or temporary work locations) at least twice per year.Applications should be received by 21 June and include a resume and a statement of research interests.
