Overview

JST is currently seeking a Cloud Systems Engineer to support our team within a government environment. The Cloud Systems Engineer plays a vital role in designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud infrastructure within the government environment. This role is responsible for ensuring the security, performance, and reliability of cloud-based systems and services. The Cloud Systems Engineer will have extensive experience with cloud platforms, strong technical skills, and a deep understanding of DoD (Department of Defense) security requirements and protocols. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to work effectively in a dynamic and mission-critical setting. This role will operate cloud infrastructure services and aid cloud deployments and collaborate with development teams and other personnel to establish requirements for new or modified infrastructure services. This role will collaborate with stakeholders and development teams to evaluate and deploy optimal solutions.

Cloud Systems Engineer Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, update, and maintain the infrastructure and functionality of cloud systems.
  • Design and implement cloud infrastructure solutions tailored to DoD requirements and security standards.
  • Deploy and manage cloud resources, including virtual machines, storage, and networking components on platforms such as Google Cloud.
  • Ensure high availability, scalability, and disaster recovery capabilities of cloud environments.
  • Implement and maintain cloud security best practices to protect sensitive data and comply with DoD regulations.
  • Perform regular security assessments and vulnerability scans of cloud environments.
  • Manage identity and access management (IAM) policies and role-based access controls.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to cloud infrastructure and services.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as code (IaC) scripts using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
  • Automate repetitive tasks and workflows to improve efficiency and reduce operational overhead.
  • Optimize cloud resource usage and costs through monitoring and tuning.
  • Work closely with development, operations, and security teams to support cloud-based applications and services, including AI (artificial intelligence), ML (machine learning), and LLM (large language model) services.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to team members and stakeholders.
  • Document cloud architectures, configurations, and procedures for knowledge sharing and compliance purposes.
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and third-party service providers as needed.
  • Ensure all IT activities comply with DoD regulations, standards, and security protocols.
  • Assist in implementing security measures to protect sensitive information and systems.
  • Report any security incidents or breaches to the appropriate authorities.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
  • Must be available to travel up to 4 times a year.

Cloud Systems Engineer Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree preferable, but relevant experienced considered.
  • Security certifications like CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or equivalent.
  • Relevant cloud certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect.
  • 4 years' experience or equivalent working within cloud platforms.
  • Proficiency in cloud architecture design, deployment, and management.
  • Knowledge of cloud security principles and practices, including encryption, IAM, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
  • Ability to automate cloud operations and streamline processes.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to stay current with evolving cloud technologies and industry best practices.
  • Ability to quickly learn new tools, technologies, and procedures.

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in a DoD or government IT environment.
  • Preferred experience in Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools.
  • Smartsheet, Salesforce, Google Workspace experience

Required Clearances and Screenings

  • MUST be able to pass a US Government Security Clearance
  • MUST have an active secret clearance or be able to obtain one
