Title: Principal – Kent Career Technical Center (KCTC) Kent ISD

Salary:  Non-Union Professional – Grade 9 (commensurate with education and experience)

Full-Time work schedule, start time of 6:00 am, Monday through Friday, 260 days per year

Reports To: Assistant Superintendent of Instruction

Positions Supervised:  KCTC Staff

Broad Summary Statement of General Responsibilities:

This essential leadership position provides CTE instructional leadership and supervision by establishing, promoting and leading efforts that ensure that every student is engaged in meaningful career and technical education programming at the highest quality level. The principal will foster an environment and school culture characterized by genuine relationships, communication, high expectations, data driven decision-making, continuous improvement, capacity building, and cultural competence. The principal is responsible for leading and supporting building staff in the daily operations of the school. Kent ISD believes in each student achieving at their highest level. Minimum Job Qualifications:

Master’s Degree and valid Michigan Administrator Certification Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a secondary school administrator Excellent written and oral communication skills Collaborative leadership and teambuilding skills Evidence of positive community relationship building skills Ability to build meaningful and sustainable partnerships Commitment to the inclusion and achievement of all students Demonstrates self-motivation and ability to complete tasks as assigned Consensus builder that believes in shared decision making Demonstrated commitment to leading the continuous improvement process with fidelity Ability to collaboratively develop, implement and monitor effective processes and systems that lead to achievement of the school’s goals and continuous improvement Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to effectively utilize a range of technology devices and applications Demonstrated customer service, problem solving and conflict resolution skills High degree of creativity, flexibility and accountability in order to achieve defined objectives Ability to effectively develop and implement a school / program budget Competencies in effective staff supervision and evaluation Ability to lead effective coordination, communication and synergy with local district partners Ability to plan, coordinate and implement training, presentations and professional development to large groups of staff and/or other stakeholders, as needed Ability to consistently and effectively interpret, communicate and apply all ISD policies, procedures and regulations

Preferred Qualifications  (not required)

Considerable CTE strongly experience preferred but not required 5-7 years of secondary principal experience Experience working with diverse student populations Experience with cognitive coaching, consensus, and team building Experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating school-wide programs Training in 5D+ Teacher Evaluation model

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services, the principal is responsible for all aspects of KCTC leadership and administration, including student enrollment, program development, safety, staffing and supervision, budget and facilities matters In coordination with leadership and stakeholders, implements the mission and vision focused on shared goals and high expectations for all students. Takes responsibility for creating practices which maximize achievement in an environment that supports the social, emotional, and intellectual safety of all students Fosters a welcoming, supportive and inclusive environment for all stakeholders Responsible for effective selection, supervision, scheduling, training and evaluation of staff in collaborating with Human Resources Supports the development, implementation, and monitoring of plans, systems, curricula, and programs that support the whole learner Plans, develops and/or facilitates quality training and professional development for staff Works with the Director of Grants to seek special grants that relate to career-technical education Participates, as appropriate, in professional organizations, business organizations and political activities for the promotion and improvement of career-technical programs Works with local administrators, staff and advisory committees in support of the needs of business and industry. Assists in the coordination of college credit articulation. Works closely with the CEPD, performing or contributing to local CTE compliance duties, where assigned Represents the center on various regional and state planning committees Implements rigorous standards-based curricula and assessment and assists staff in implementing and aligning curricula to CTE, federal, state, and district standards Regularly leads and participates in data driven conversations with individuals and groups of teachers to review student and program level data, discuss instructional implications, and build the capacity of teachers to lead and perfect their craft, and determine course offerings Locates, analyzes, and interprets multiple data sources to inform continuous school level improvement efforts Coordinates matters of student discipline, attendance, truancy, and welfare with parent/guardian, teacher, student’s local school district, and support personnel Serves as a good steward of all resources and ensures that all resources are leveraged for the purpose of continuous improvement Accurately prepare and oversee all aspects of the budget in coordination with the Business Office, seeking the most strategic utilization of funding resources Evaluates designated certified teaching staff using the CEL 5D+ Framework for improved instructional practices and addresses substandard performance and ensures teachers receive regular, direct, actionable feedback regarding their classroom practice to grow professionally and to increase instructional consistency across all classrooms Responds to personnel matters in a manner that protects an individual’s due process rights while applying appropriate corrective action or discipline, as appropriate Actively finds ways to communicate the successes of the school to the broader community, resulting in creation of partnerships to bring additional people and resources into the Establishes and nurtures an environment that promotes cultural competence and equitable treatment of staff, students, and patrons of the District Recognizes that each person is a unique individual even as we celebrate their group cultural heritage Nurtures a school environment that celebrates, respects, and values diversity, where teaching and learning are made relevant and meaningful to students of various cultures Oversees KCTC student services and programs for special populations Works closely with Launch U / Early Middle College leaders to maximize opportunities for students Complete and submit accurate compliance reporting as required by grants, state or other requirements, including accurate and timely preparation of MDE reporting Comply with applicable school policy, regulations and laws Maintain regular and consistent employee attendance; in-person attendance as this is not a remote work position Ability to consistently and effectively interpret, communicate and apply all ISD policies, procedures and regulations Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
