Job Title: Electrical Engineer

Description: We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to design, develop, and test electrical equipment, components, and systems for heavy equipment use. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in making engineering drawings, reading blueprints, and applying principles of electrical theory to engineering projects.

Position’s Contributions to Work Group: The Electrical Engineer will spend 80% of their time performing maintenance tasks on existing tooling, completing differing levels of engineering work related to complex electrical service tooling, and introducing new tooling solutions as required.

Reason/motivation for request: This new position is created to provide additional support for current engineering needs, primarily aligned with supporting existing products. The forecasted increase in new product introduction in the coming years necessitates additional engineering support.

Typical Day in the Role:
  • Correction of existing tooling issues, including updating existing tools for compliance regulations or replacing them with replacement tooling.
  • Creation of electrical tooling based on requests from dealers or machine product groups.

Interaction with team: Daily interaction with the engineering team lead for project progress reporting and training. Regular interaction with other electrical engineering team members to understand process execution and best practices. Occasional interaction with other teams within Caterpillar and/or Suppliers as required for project work.

Work environment: Initially 3 days in the office and 2 remote days once the candidate is trained, subject to change based on project needs or executive direction. The role involves working in an office environment, Electrical Lab, and Mechanical lab as needed.

Candidate Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 2-4 years of hands-on experience.

Technical Skills (Required):
  • Understanding of complex wiring circuits for test equipment and machines.
  • Ability to read prints and understand requirements for producing parts.
  • Basic computer software knowledge (Excel, Word, Adobe, etc.).
  • Project execution according to a developed plan.
  • Electrical troubleshooting experience on various circuits and components.
  • Experience installing/working with harnesses on various applications.
  • Testing of various components.

Technical Skills (Desired):
  • Background in test, preferably on heavy equipment, industrial, automotive.
  • Experience using instrumentation such as voltmeters, scopes, metrology, data collection devices.

Soft Skills (Required):
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to interact effectively with a diverse, global workforce.
