Job Summary:

West Texas A&M University, a member of The Texas A&M University System located in Canyon, Texas, invites applications for a Laboratory Coordinator and Instructor of Chemistry. This full time (11 plus one month) position at West Texas A&M University involves teaching 15 Adjusted Contact Hours [ACH]) per long semester as well as General Chemistry I & II courses in the summer terms as needed. Primary responsibilities will include the management and development of General and Organic Chemistry and General Physics laboratories, training and overseeing undergraduate teaching assistants, and teaching Chemistry I and II courses. The successful candidate will be expected to manage and execute all general and organic chemistry laboratories as well as general physics laboratories. This includes management of inventories and equipment, as well as undergraduate and graduate TA’s. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to teach Introductory Chemistry, as well as General Chemistry I and II courses.

Work Performed:

Plan, manage and supervise General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and General Physics laboratory courses. Train and supervise undergraduate or graduate Teaching Assistants for all General and Organic Chemistry and General Physics laboratories. Ensure that laboratory and classroom chemical safety regulations are followed and enforced. Teach Introductory Chemistry as well as General Chemistry I & II courses. Hold regular weekly office hours and communicate as needed with students and faculty. Serve as academic advisor for undergraduate Chemistry majors. Meet with prospective Chemistry and Physics students, or otherwise be involved in departmental and college recruiting efforts to the undergraduate and graduate programs in the Department of Chemistry and Physics.

Necessary Qualifications:

An earned M.S. degree in Chemistry from an accredited institution. Willingness to develop and maintain all materials for Chemistry and Physics laboratory exercises. Willingness to oversee and provide instructional support and training of Teaching Assistants. Willingness to contribute 15 adjusted contact hours (ACH) per semester. Willingness to serve as academic advisor to Chemistry and Physics majors. Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience and demonstrated excellence teaching and or working in a Chemistry laboratory setting. Experience supervising undergraduate students. Experience developing and revising Chemistry laboratory exercises/manuals for General and Organic Chemistry laboratory courses. Experience setting-up, operating, and maintaining the various, standard equipment and instrumentation used in undergraduate chemistry and physics laboratory programs.
