The successful candidate will co-develop and implement TILT-wide procedures, policies, and practices while also directing TILTs Instructional Innovation and Engagement (II&E) unit. The Director of Teaching Excellence will help integrate each of II&Es programs to optimize impact, resource use, and efficiency and to align closely with CSUs Strategic Plan and Student Success Initiative (SSI). To do so, the Director of Teaching Excellence will collaborate with TILTs directors who will pursue a similar leadership role across TILT units, and with TILTs Executive Director, to guide TILT staff in developing and using effective processes for decision-making, assessment and revision of TILTs programs. Working with TILT Leadership, the Director of Teaching Excellence will support TILTs directors, program directors and coordinators, designing and implementing effective planning, quality-enhancement, outcomes-based assessment, professional development, team building, inclusive work and learning spaces, and program alignment processes in their units, and across TILT. In doing so, the Director of Teaching Excellence will collaborate with TILT leadership in building highly successful cultures within TILT, cultures that meaningfully integrate the Principles of Community and other key CSU principles and priorities into the work of each unit and staff member; cultures and processes that promote collaborative, creative problem-solving, initiative, and efficacy; cultures and processes that support each staff members and units development; and processes that deepen and broaden the positive impact of TILT programming on an inclusive teaching and learning culture for CSU students, faculty, staff, and others.

The Director of Teaching Excellence provides vision and direction for TILT faculty-development programs and initiatives that advance student-centered, inclusive, accessible, and effective teaching strategies in support of student learning and success.

The director is a member of the TILT leadership team and oversees a team of full-time professionals that includes instructional designers, faculty developers and technologists. The director oversees and leads a portfolio of existing educational-development programs and several campuswide teaching events, including new faculty orientation and an annual summer teaching conference. Further, the director will guide the team in developing and launching new programs, streamlining or expanding some existing programs, and in scaling back others to reflect campus needs. This work will include building partnerships in TILT and across campus, regularly assessing programs impact, using assessment findings for program improvement, and deepening the positive impact of the teams programs on CSU students, faculty, and others. This director will work collaboratively in support of faculty, departments, and colleges as well as with programs and staff in co-curricular locations.

The director will lead the II&E team in collaborating closely with other TILT units and stakeholders across campus. The director will, in collaboration with TILTs Executive Director and Associate Directors, determine how to mobilize the teams expertise to best serve both ongoing and emerging priorities. Required Job Qualifications Masters degree. Experience in college teaching, workforce development and/or adult education. Evidence of a commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education. Preferred Job Qualifications or terminal degree or ABD with defense scheduled. Two years (four semesters/six quarters) or more experience in disciplinary undergraduate teaching at the college or university level, whether residence-based or online. Experience managing people toward accomplishing a common goal. Knowledge of learning theory and/or the scholarship on teaching and learning. Research and publication in the scholarship on teaching and learning or discipline-based education research. Experience implementing equity-based educational frameworks and practices. Experience envisioning, designing, and implementing programs to support faculty professional development and student success. Demonstrated experience designing and conducting outcomes-based assessments and using assessment data for program improvement. Collaborate with the TILT Executive and Associate Directors to determine priorities and schedules for programming. Create strategies to meet the diverse needs of instructors, including new faculty, full-time tenure-track faculty and teaching professors, and adjunct faculty. Contribute to university strategic initiatives with implications for teaching, such as classroom design, accessibility, inclusive teaching, student success, etc. Stay abreast of and implement best practices and emerging trends in the field of faculty development. Stay current in leading research, theory, and practices in curricular design, science of learning, inclusive pedagogy and adult learning, and ensure professional-development programs reflect evidence-based practices. Build innovative programs and services for the future. Work with the other members of TILT leadership to design and implement collaborative decision-making processes to align TILTs endeavors with CSUs Strategic Plan and SSI, as well as with TILTs mission and strategic plan; optimize TILT processes; and achieve other key goals.
