Department Overview

Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. As a whole, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E’s gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.

 

Position Summary

Acts as mission commander during aerial patrol flights and performs aerial patrolling of PG&E natural gas facilities in adherence and compliance to all PG&E guidelines, FAA regulations, and federal, state, and local laws. Conducts pre-flight mission briefing, navigates flight path using GIS applications, operates multispectral equipment, observes, and reports observations, performs post-flight data processing, and is ultimately responsible for all collected data during flights.

 

Position will require approximately  75% of travel time in work schedule.

 

This is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered position and is subject to random drug and/ or alcohol testing.

 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

 

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $36.06 to $54.32

 

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

 

Qualifications-

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

•             High school diploma or GED

•             2 years aerial survey experience

•             2 years GIS experience

•             Completed safety training for Helicopters and Fixed-Wing aircraft

•             Completed Crew Resource Management (CRM) training

•             Completed Wilderness Survival training

•             Completed HUET/Survival training

•             Completed Simulated Emergency Safety training

•             Completed Three-Way communication tailboard training

•             Current active certification in first aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

•             California Class C Driver’s License

Desired Qualifications:

•             Current active PG&E Operator Qualification 08-04, “Aerial Patrol”

•             Completed Fixed-Wing Pinch Hitter training

•             Completed Wired Environment training

•             This position requires the ability to travel completely throughout PG&E’s service territory and other destinations as required.

•             Must be willing and able to semi-annually pass a performance evaluation ride along.

•             Be on call in the event of an emergency that requires rapid deployment

•             Able to lift up to 40 pounds overhead

Responsibilities

•             Leads the team's day-to-day operations in support of the team and the supervisor.

•             Schedules aerial patrol operations in coordination with supervisor, Aviation Services, Helicopter Operations, pilots, and contractors to meet patrol frequency requirements and accommodate special flight requests.

•             Maintains inventory of aerial patroller equipment.

•             Provides regular metrics and program reports to supervisor.

•             Directs quality control efforts.

•             Perform in-flight performance evaluations of aerial patrollers and pilots.

•             Maintains training, Operator Qualification, and performance evaluation records of aerial patrollers.

•             Assists with the development and revision of current aerial patrol guidelines, training guides, etc.

•             May act as a representative of the Pipeline Patrol Program and PG&E when attending conferences, events, etc.

•             Perform duties of Associate level job, as needed.

 

 

Associate Level Responsibilities-

•             Ensures pre- and post-flight checklists are completed and conducts pre- flight mission briefing.

•             Navigates along the flight path and directs the pilot.

•             Operates GPS tracking devices and multispectral data collection equipment.

•             Observes, records, and reports surface conditions using GIS software.

•             Completes, maintains, and submits accurate and timely records of patrol activities and observed conditions.

•             Performs post-flight data processing and video analysis.

•             Participates in regular meetings and trainings.

•             May be required to perform ground field work assessing pipelines.

•             Complies with FAA and U.S. Department of Transportation Drug and Alcohol.
