Clin Pharm Specialist - Neonatal/Pediatric

A Brief Overview

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist for Pediatrics/Neonatal services is responsible for provision of pharmacotherapeutic, Pharmacokinetics, operational and consultative care services for pediatric and neonatal population.

What you will do

  • Establish and/or participate in a clinical practice by interacting with patients, prescribers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, as a member of an interdisciplinary team on patient care units inclusive of patient care rounds to provide pharmacotherapeutics, pharmacokinetic dosing recommendations and monitoring for optimal medication use
  • Identify and develop medication use evaluations to create or update policies to ensure appropriate medication use and regulatory compliance for the age-related groups
  • Functions independently in day-to-day, operational/staffing, clinical and administrative duties associated with the position, consulting with pharmacy management only when required. In general, uses a high degree of professional judgment to solve complex problems which routinely arise throughout the work day.
  • Implements risk mitigation strategies and review of laboratory and other tests to help determine efficacy and toxicity of medication therapy.
  • Design, implement, assess, monitor and document therapeutic plans utilizing the most effective, least toxic and most economical medication treatments;
  • Develop and monitor the process and procedures for compounding and dispensing medication for the pediatric/neonates by the pharmacy team.
  • Provide input for nutrition support formulations, cardio respiratory resuscitation therapeutics and clinical research projects
  • Identify, participate and collaborate on departmental and hospital wide continuous quality and performance improvement projects and initiatives in the specialty area to ensure clinical and financial stewardship
  • Serve as the pediatric drug information resource, provide and participate in education of pharmacy staff, pharmacy students, nursing, and other healthcare professionals on pertinent Pediatric clinical topics
  • Lead and participate in hospital wide committees and clinical research related to area of practice
  • Serve as a preceptor for pharmacy students and PGY-1 Pharmacy Residents
  • Provision of other services and projects as identified by the pharmacy leadership team


Education Qualifications

  • Doctorate Doctor of Pharmacy Degree required and
  • Post Graduate completion of an accredited PGY-2 Residency Certificate or BPS certification or required or
  • Equivalent clinical pharmacy experience required


Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a hospital pharmacy with 2 years Pediatric/Neonatal specialty areas required

Licenses and Certifications

  • PHARMD - Licensed Pharmacist Registered Pharmacist in the State of New Jersey upon hire required
