SUMMARY

The Industrial Engineer is responsible for designing and implementing common contract logistics processes and driving continuous performance improvement. This engineer may also provide engineering support for new and/or expanding business implementations. The Industrial Engineer will support multifaceted operations and have a detailed understanding of client needs. Industrial Engineer may contribute to the overall facility layout and design as well as determine appropriate equipment to support the concept of operational use. The Engineer will also routinely support the physical implementation of the solution.

This role is also responsible for maintaining financial and engineering metrics that will meet or exceed performance goals. The Industrial Engineer may at times provide guidance and training to interns/Co-ops.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Research/Analysis: Ensures all distribution system functionality is configured to optimize performance (e.g., warehouse management, labor management, slotting and reporting applications) Utilizes work measurement techniques (predetermine time & motion / time studies / etc.) and analyzes work samples to develop standards for labor utilization Analyzes contractual commitments, customer specifications, design changes and other data to drive continuous improvement and meet or exceed expectations of customer Performs special research or technical studies critical to logistic support functions Performs cost/benefit tradeoff analysis and develop ROI business cases for recommended projects involving process, system or technology change Forecasts facility, vehicle, staffing and/or material handling equipment needs in order to improve cost, utilization, service, and efficiencies Conducts studies to determine the most efficient sequence of operations and workflow by analyzing production costs, process flow charts, and production schedules Recommends methods for maximizing the utilization of production facilities and personnel by restructuring job duties, reorganizing workflow, relocating workstations and equipment, and purchasing equipment in adherence with governmental, health, safety, and other regulations. Provides labor planning tool tailored to the client’s business and agreed upon operating processes Documentation/Reporting: Document and communicate common processes for all distribution functions within scope of responsibility Review data and summarize expectations to address gaps in operation Identify areas for improvement based on analysis of data and observations Communication: Communicate opportunities for improvement in the distribution network Help determine key metrics and provide recommendations to guide management Assist with developing/presenting training materials and classes for distribution processes Relationships: Bring cross-functional teams together to collaborate on projects Support the labor management program, including methods and procedures, engineered labor standards, incentive programs and program policies Ensure alignment among all operations’ policies, procedures and ongoing improvement projects LEAN Operations: Facilitate LEAN methodology and recommend solutions to specific business case issues Utilize statistical tools such as Pareto Charts, Histograms, Cause & Effect Diagrams Maintain subject matter expertise in proven industry methods and tools such as Six Sigma DMAIC, value-stream mapping, and 5S Work with leadership to drive continual improvement programs, Kaizen events, and workshops Ensure that all projects include a sustainability component and drive adherence at multiple levels within the organization utilizing integrated process audits, floor-level dashboards, and management scorecards Illustrate continual improvement successes in a case study before & after format that quantifies value and documents actions taken for future reapplication Project Management: Assist with developing and rolling out growth strategies and projects Establishes and tracks projects/actions utilizing project management tools and leads/supports driving meetings with operations through completion Determine feasibility of projects factoring costs, available space, schedule limitations, company goals, technical requirements, and economic factors

Solution Design: Identifies and procures all necessary capital expense items to support successful launch of operation Understanding of the approved Solutions Model tied to the client’s award of business to DSV Participation in “Advance Quality Planning” sessions with clients validating requirements and processes Determines and gains agreement of final design of facility, operating process, equipment type and quantity Partners with key functional groups that are part of implementation (HR, IT, Operations, etc.) to develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) Develops and provides action items to Project Management that will lead to successful implementation

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

If applicable may manage interns, providing coaching and mentoring as they support process improvement projects

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - Education and/or Experience

Minimum 2 years of industrial engineering experience in a supply chain (warehouse/4 walls) or similar environment Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline Experience in retail distribution support and/or e-commerce type environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Degree in Industrial Engineering is preferred Green Belt Six Sigma / Lean Certified Experience dealing with end users, vendors, and clients Experience in 3PL environment

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

Computer Skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications Advanced MS Excel user Proficient Insight into a Warehouse Management System (WMS) allowing for understanding of system capabilities Knowledge of computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment such as AutoCAD, MS-Project, and Visio Knowledge of Simulation software Knowledge of analytical software/reporting tools, such as PowerBI, Tableau, Alteryx, etc.

Language Skills

English (reading, writing, verbal) Interpersonal communication and language skills (e.g., listening to others, speaking to others, reading, writing). Communication (facilitation skills and very mature communication skills to be able to communicate to all levels in the organization). Strong writing skills with experience documenting design methodologies to create logistics solutions and responses to RFPs

Strong attention to detail accuracy and accomplishes job task in a timely manner E-commerce experience including starting up small to large volume solutions Experience in multiple warehouse automation applications (Pick to Light, Automated Sortation, Voice Pick, conveyor design, etc.) Experience in LMS implementation and/or steady state execution

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee uses his/her hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk or hear. The employee uses computer and telephone equipment. Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision and distance vision. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. while following proper lifting procedures. Must be able to stand on feet for up to 8 hours per day.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Based on the nature of DSV Business, position may perform the assigned activities inside any DSV sites and change shifts as needed. Willing to travel
