Position Purpose

1. Supervise the daily operations of Carpenter Shop to include: Plan, schedule, and assign daily, weekly, and monthly work orders and
carpenter shop personnel; maintain accurate daily records of shop personnel and inventory; recommend expenditures for budget; develop material and labor cost estimates for maintenance and shop projects; appraise work in progress; check and review completed work; contact vendors; requisition, approve, maintain, coordinate, and distribute materials, supplies, and equipment.
2. Supervise the Carpenter Shop personnel to include: train and evaluate the performance of employees; conduct new employee orientations and routine safety meetings; conduct performance appraisals; assign daily, weekly, and special project assignments; approve leave requests and adjust the work schedule as needed; participate in the interview process for new hires. Recommend new hires. Recommend transfers and promotions; determine and administer disciplinary action for employees in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding and/or University policy and procedure.
3. Assist the Projects Manager, to include: recommend improvements to policies, procedures, scheduling practices, etc… to ensure optimal utilization of resources; assist in the design, engineering, planning, and execution of projects as they relate to the Carpenter Shop; perform other duties as asigned. Education & Formal Training High school diploma or equivalent, Education/Experience substitution (specify) Other Education & Formal Training Professional trade school completion or related military experience may be substituted for experience at a 1 
year for 1 year rate. For example, a one-year trade school program or one year of related military experience may substitute for 
one year of required experience. 
 
-Education may be substituted for experience or experience may be substituted for education based on the following: AA = 2 years experience; BA/BS = 4 years experience; MA/MS = 6 years experience. Computer Skills Spreadsheet, Word-Processing Experience 1. Must have at least four years combined carpentry vocational training and job experience as a seasoned trades person. (considered as 
a master level craftsperson). 
2. Two years supervisory experience in a multi-disciplinary shop. Other Experience Licenses, Certificates, Registrations, & State/Federal Requirements of Position: Criminal History check, Driver's license, Missouri license required Other Licenses, Certificates, Registrations, & State/Federal Requirements Special Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge: Attention to detail, Budget-related skills, Communication skills, including oral, written, and/or nonverbal, Knowledge of a University environment preferred, Human Relations/Interpersonal skills, Leadership skills: organization/meeting facilitation/project leadership, Physical abilities: mobility/strength/dexterity/balance/coordination/endurance, Supervisory skills, including motivation, delegation of duties, evaluation, etc, Management and/or administration skills, Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines, Maintain confidentiality Other Special Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge Demonstrate knowledge of carpentry, painting, and furniture repair. 
 
Ability to operate and train others in the use of the tools, machines, and equipment of the trade. 
 
Knowledge of current building codes and ADA requirements. Specify sensory abilities: Physical & Environmental Factors: Excessive standing and/or walking, Exposure to extreme temperatures, Exposure to fumes and/or chemicals, Exposure to heights, Exposure to loud noises, Lifting (weight) - 50 lbs. Other Physical & Environmental Factors Bending, stooping, and twisting. 
 
May work form a cherry picker, scaffolding, and/or ladders. Lifting weight Special Working Conditions: On call/standby work required, Irregular work hours, Professional appearance, Work in stressful conditions Other Special Working Conditions Business casual attire. 
 
Rotates weekend work assignments with others in department. 
 
Subject to call-in due to malfunctioning equipment. Ability to Keyboard Special Qualifications: Other Special Qualifications Incumbent must provide his or her own basic tools. 
 
Knowledge of all safety equipment and procedures associated with the trade.
