Tetlin, United States Kinross Gold Corporation Full time

The Manh Choh Project is a greenfield gold deposit in eastern Alaska being developed with ore being hauled to Kinross’ Fort Knox mine north of Fairbanks for processing. The mine site is located in the Tetlin Hills, approximately 250 miles southeast of Fort Knox and 10 miles southeast of Tok. Production is expected to begin in 2024.

Job Summary

Perform routine preparation of samples (solutions, carbons, drill holes, etc.) provided by the Mill and Mine departments. Sample preparation includes crushing, splitting, and pulverization. Responsible for logging in samples with a bar-code reader and maintaining proper organization. Perform quality control checks on equipment. Occasional travel to Fort Knox to deliver pulp and retrieve spare parts required. Work is performed in accordance with instruction given by supervisor to whom employee reports to.

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for employing designed sampling methods which are most appropriate to obtain a sample that is representative of the original sample or blast hole.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean work area.
  • Responsible for maintaining clean equipment and performing maintenance tasks on equipment that are within the scope of training and abilities.
  • Responsible for inputting blast hole information into lab computers to organize samples and sample envelopes, and maintain sample integrity as well as production data for daily and monthly reports.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
  • Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the state.
  • Work safely in all areas, identify potential safety hazards, and work with management to correct hazards.
  • Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.  Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.
  • Strong math and chemistry background preferred.
  • Problem solving and analytical ability necessary.
  • Working knowledge of spreadsheet software.
  • Must have solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
  • Must be available for shift work, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
