The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City’s evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, visitors, volunteers and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7, diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.

The DOC seeks to recruit a Community Coordinator for the Criminal Justice Bureau (CJB). The CJB manages, among other programs, the Video Teleconferencing (VTC) program that enables incarcerated individuals at NYC Department of Correction to communicate with courts, attorneys, probation, and other entities for court and other professional purposes. VTC is conducted exclusively using Microsoft Teams. In additional to providing timely customer service to all the parties we interact with, the CJB is also responsible for time-sensitive VTC-related data reporting and requests from internal and external entities.

This role’s tasks will include but are not limited to the following:
-Use Microsoft Excel to capture, maintain, and run analytics/visualizations (e.g., VLOOKUP,
Pivot Tables/Charts, and other formulas/functions) on the data various datasets from DOC
and NYS DOCCS – Community Supervision, Board of Parole, State Screening Unit, HHC
Mental Health, and HHC Opiate Treatment Program to improve operations and track the
parole violator population housed in DOC
-Leveraging data science to automate various reports, link disparate datasets, and analyze
them to form a larger picture to yield insights that can shed light on trends in Criminal Justice
data
-Schedule and connect VTC sessions using information received from Microsoft Outlook
mailboxes & the Teams software, as well as rescheduling meetings when higher courts require
the same time slots
-Provide excellent customer service to all internal and external parties via phone and email while
handling a high-volume of customer calls and emails
-Serve as liaison between DOC and the Mayor’s Office as well as DOCCS, with regards to the
parole violator population.
-Administer office supplies, organize, and arrange departmental events including Town Hall,
maintain office schedules, produce and distribute correspondence, memos, letter, faxes and
forms, schedule and prepare materials for meetings, etc.
-Handle the personal services budget and coordinate purchasing activities, which include
maintaining office and equipment inventory, tracking expenses (accounts receivable/payable),
and obtaining estimates and bids for goods and services.
-Other tasks assigned as needed to support the needs and operations of the Bureau.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills
-Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills (e.g., VLOOKUP and related formulas, Pivot Tables/Charts, other data analytic and visualization techniques)-Extensive Teams and Outlook experience is also favorable (e.g., creating and connecting virtual meetings with multiple parties in attendance)-Procurement and accounting experience of significantly sized budgets -Handling a high-volume of customer calls and emails while possessing a strong customer service and team orientation is essential to support the needs of the Bureau
