Job Scope:
The Sanitation Manager is to be proficient in every aspect of this position. The Sanitation Manager's overall responsibility, and objective, is to ensure a clean and sanitary production facility and grounds in compliance with GMP and food safety expectations and industry and organizational standards supporting production goals.
Work Environment:
Work is performed primarily indoors near operating equipment. Works in both low and high heights, cold, hot, dusty areas where loose particles may be present. Works near operating equipment and loud noise, such as forklift horns and machinery. Loose and dusty particles may be present.
Duties and Responsibilities:
It is the responsibility of the Sanitation Manager to oversee the Sanitation Department ensuring that all applicable food safety and quality assurance policies, including but not limited to, SQF Codes, federal, state, and local regulations are followed. This includes industry best practices. The Sanitation Manager is a leader who works alongside a crew of Sanitation employees, with the primary objective of helping to develop and support employee growth while achieving the Food Safety/GMP goals of the operation.
- Meet/exceed Sanitation goals and expectations regularly.
- Train employees from other departments including maintenance, warehouse/loading, sanitation, and quality control on Sanitation principles.
- Create, coordinate, and implement the Master Sanitation and the master Cleaning schedules with particular attention to lock out/tag out procedures. Complete required documentation.
- Manage the plant sanitation program by reviewing, maintaining, and updating Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures
- Support and implement processes and system improvements to continually provide the lowest cost, highest quality, and on-time delivery initiatives, while maintaining optimum sanitary conditions Develop and recommend continually facility and equipment improvements and cleaning procedures.
- Understand and work in conjunction with production schedules and achieve goals and deadlines developing a detailed knowledge of the process flow of the plan.
- Prioritize work daily by identifying pressing issues, through communication with each operator, knowing shift production plans and awareness of area.
- Understand the hazards of cross contamination.
- Assist in all third-party audits to facilitate plant readiness and inspection process flow.
- Conduct daily plant inspections for cleanliness and food safety hazards.
- Order and maintain inventory of all cleaning products.
- Work closely with operations team leaders to ensure that corrective and preventive actions related to sanitation and food safety are being implemented and maintained.
- Maintain all Pertinent Records, Reports and paperwork as needed.
- Must work closely with the EHS Manager to assure that all safety protocols are adhered to when executing sanitation and pest control programs.
- Point of contact for the pest control operator and have responsibility for ensuring the PCO is met upon completion of services and any findings and observations are followed up on.
- Provide necessary resources to Sanitation personnel and other departments to ensure quality production flow.
- Actively participate with all functional company areas (Safety, Quality Control, Production, Food Safety, Maintenance, Human Resources, Administration, etc.) ensuring all members of the Sanitation Department do the same.
- Maintain timeclock and Sanitation records promptly and accurately (Timecards, time off requests, accurate and up to date Communication Log entries, etc.).
- Ensure proper training of employees to ensure thorough and quality training is given whereas the employee is competent to perform said position/task.
- Develop and promote ongoing growth development through promoting development in Sanitation personnel through onsite training (cross-training, etc.).
- Ensure sanitation associate's activities to ensure that they are following all standard operating procedures for the department.
- Ensure employees are competently cross trained in all positions within/outside of their designated zone.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be willing to/have availability to work any shift (day or night shift).
- Ability to work independently without immediate direction or oversight. Self-motivated with a high degree of initiative and integrity
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to effectively communicate with employees/management/auditors.
- Excellent interpersonal skills (communication, listening, team player, cooperative, approachable).
- Ability to be flexible, multitask, manage stress, and perform acceptably under pressure.
- Ability to maintain a problem-solving mindset; to anticipate problems and to develop constructive and balanced solutions.
- Ability to work in cold, hot, dusty areas and at various heights.
- Ability to read and understand SOP's, GMP's and HACCP practices and procedures.
- Strong knowledge of SOP's (Standard Operating Procedures) and GMP's (General Manufacturing Practices) with ability to interpret and teach them to operators.
- Ability to read and understand production schedules, instructions, manuals, etc.
- Ability to effectively operate a computer system including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office programs (Word, Outlook, Excel).
- Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for long periods including on a catwalk.
- Must be capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds routinely.
- Must be capable of overhead work and manual dexterity for manipulating or moving objects.
- Must be able to climb both stairs and ladders up to a high elevation.
- Must be able to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- Must be able to operate a forklift.
- Must be able to perform moderate to heavy labor under constant machine operation and other noise.
Education & Experience Recommendations:
- 4 years of sanitation experience at a food processing facility.
- 2 years of experience in a management role.
