What You Will Do

In this role, you'll be responsible for supporting OEM customers for all quality and reliability-related issues by performing root cause investigations on all product returns and driving the implementation of Topcon products and process improvements.

Perform root-cause analysis for field and production failures. Special focus on analysis of OEM customer product returns (RMAs) for determination of potential impact on warranty costs.Analyze electronic circuits at system, module, and component level. When appropriate, conduct experiments in an attempt to recreate failures or analyze ‘what if’ scenarios. When necessary, employ 3rd party analysis labs to provide additional capabilities. Drive interactions with 3rd party labs and coordinate samples as needed. Perform Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) and/or Fault Tree Analysis as needed.Recommend potential follow-up actions to revise manufacturing processes and/or product designs. Work with Reliability Engineering team to review individual failure cases and to understand the impact of potential design changes. Provide feedback to the Product Development team to ensure that lessons learned feed forward into next generation products.Create concise failure analysis reports with exceptional visualizations and present findings to project teams.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes

Knowledge and hands on experience with failure analysis and materials characterization techniques such as Electrical testing and characterization (multimeter, curve tracer, oscilloscope) temperature characterization, optical microscope, real time X-ray, decapsulation, cross sectioning, dye and pry, XRF…etc.)Good familiarity with radio communications and modulations, protocols such as CAN, Ethernet, TCP/IP, UDP, serial, i2C, SPI, USB etc. Ability to write custom applications for tests.Experience with ‘Arduino or Raspberry Pi’ boardsDeep understanding of software, firmware, OS, analytical tools and fundamental failure mechanism theories.Knowledge of various root cause analysis techniques such as fault tree analysis, fishbone diagrams, and 5 Whys can help in systematically identifying underlying issues.Strong analytical skills with a working knowledge of statistical methods and the use of standard quality tools (e.g. FMEA, SPC, DOE, MSA, ANOVA, regression analysis, etc.).Working knowledge of Windows, C++, Visual Basic. Python, and LabVIEW.Strong team player, detail oriented, proactive, self-driven, and results-orientedAbility to effectively communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders, including technical and non-technical audiences.Ability to manage projects effectively, including setting timelines, prioritizing tasks, and coordinating with other team members or departments involved in the analysis process.Provide feedback to the Product Development team to ensure that lessons learned feed forward into next generation products.Create concise failure analysis reports with exceptional visualizations and present findings to project teams.

The ideal candidate for this position will bring a combination of the following skills and qualifications:

BS/MS Degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or equivalent experience.At least 5 years of practical business experience in any application of Root Cause Analysis methodologies.Work On-siteWilling to travel and support OEM customers when required.

Base Pay:

Expected Base Pay Range: $125,000 to $150,000 Annualized

The base pay range included is a projected hiring range for a position, level and potential work location(s) listed. Topcon provides the compensation range that it in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position. This compensation range is based on a full-time schedule.

Our employees are eligible for paid company holidays, paid personal time off, and paid sick time that meets or exceeds state/local requirements.

For hourly (“non-exempt”) employees, we offer personal paid time off which accrues in accordance with local standards. For salaried (“exempt”) employees, we offer a flexible paid time off policy giving you flexibility to take time when needed, while supporting business needs. All paid time off policies are in accordance with or exceeding local law. Employees working at least 30 hours per week are eligible for our Health and Welfare benefit package.
