As the Wound Care Nurse, you plan, organize, develop, coordinate, and direct the wound care program.

Experience & Education:

Nursing degree from an accredited school of nursing, college, or university. Active and unencumbered LPN or RN license in Massachusetts. CPR certified. Training or current experience in wound care. Certification in infection control and/or wound care preferred. Two years of infection control/wound care experience preferred. Working knowledge of epidemiology, microbiology, infectious disease, and aseptic techniques. Two (2) years of clinical experience in long-term care.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Maintains, executes, and oversees the comprehensive wound care and prevention program. Communicates and informs the infection control and prevention committee of any wound care-related issues. Maintains accurate and comprehensive documentation related to the wound care and prevention program as well as the skin integrity program. Evaluates the status of wound care-related practices in the facility via monthly surveillance rounds. Reviews monthly lab reports, assures up-to-date lab policy/procedure manuals are available. Review the annual antibiogram. Protects residents’ individual health information.

Specific Requirements:

Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public. Knowledgable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to long-term care and infection control. Must possess leadership and supervisory ability. Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc. necessary for preventing and controlling infections.
