JOB SUMMARY:

Applicant must be capable of filling the role of Systems Engineer or Monitor Engineer as needed. During weeks when applicant is not working events, the applicant will be required to work 40 hours per week in the shop.


The Systems Engineer is responsible for the design of the sound system in software simulation, the optimization in that software, ensuring the system is deployed as designed and the final optimization/tuning of that system in the venue. The Systems Engineer will manage and oversee assigned company employees on show in the installation and operation of the concert sound system and peripheral equipment according to the company procedures and safety policies. The SE has the overall responsibility and authority of the system operations and company road staff assigned to the specific event. The SE is the principal liaison in the field between the company and the client if filling the role of Crew Chief.


The Monitor Engineer is responsible for ensuring the monitor system, RF and Com systems and stage systems are deployed and operating as designed. The Monitor Engineer (ME) is an intermediate position that requires the ability to solve technical problems in the field typical to both Level 1 and Level 2 duties. The ME becomes the principal assistant to the Crew Chief on the audio team. The Monitor Engineer primarily focuses on the assembly, operation and disassembly of the monitor system which may include but not limited to mixing consoles, floor wedges, IEM system and other wireless devices, Com systems, as well as any other required peripheral equipment. However, assistance to all audio system installations may be required. This acquired skill set may require being assigned on a project as the sole Clair representative.



QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform the essential functions of this job while exercising appropriate levels of judgment and discretion.

  • At least 3 years of field experience working with professional audio equipment and has completed the basic levels of company protocol training including safety management in the field.
  • Possess a strong knowledge of equipment logistical practices.
  • Has successfully shown ability to work with other crew members and client productions effectively without issues. Possess strong teamwork ethics.
  • Has consistently displayed the ability to maintain technical education commensurate to company equipment operating requirements.
  • Possess strong technical troubleshooting abilities.
  • Has demonstrated compliance with company safety protocols.
  • Has consistently displayed team leadership qualities.
  • Possess a strong knowledge of company/client relationships.
  • Possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must be able to travel internationally without issue and have a valid passport.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50lbs, stand and work for long periods of time.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in audio related field strongly preferred.
  • At least 3 years of field experience working with professional audio equipment and has completed the basic levels of company protocol training including safety management in the field.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support Clair's Mission and Core Values.
  • Assist Company efforts in building effective client relationships while on event.
  • Design, deploy and optimize concert sound systems according to client and company expectations and design criteria.
  • Manage the FOH equipment and interface with the drive system and sound system.
  • Trouble-shoot and resolve system components that are not operating correctly.
  • Establish strong working relationship with the FOH or Monitor mixer in obtaining desired system performance.
  • Assist company efforts to build relationships in the field. Conduct services as an extension of the sales department.
  • Oversee each project assignment regarding equipment preparation. Become a main liaison with the operations and sales departments to assist with developing client equipment specifications to meet project needs.
  • Maintain company equipment as needed and oversee that the full touring inventory is returned to the office post event.
  • Supervise Clair employees in the field as a Crew Chief. Apply disciplinary actions when required. Report any personnel issues directly to the road staff manager.
  • Assist new employees in the field as an extension of the training program.
  • Oversee and maintain safety protocols in the field. Monitor other employees to ensure safety integrity.
  • Make assessments of client satisfaction in all applicable categories' relation to company service in the field.
  • Inform the company sales department and or executive management of any client dissatisfaction with the equipment and or audio results. Follow up with corrective action utilizing the full company resources as needed.
  • Have working knowledge of company sound reinforcement systems including but not limited to the following: AC systems, rigging hardware, chain motors, company proprietary sound systems, mixing consoles, system drive, control software and hardware, digital recording/playback devices, smart analyzing software, multi meters and soldering equipment.
  • Working knowledge of venue and sound system modeling and design software and system analysis software.
  • Be able to operate and allocate 60 or more channels of RF devices.
  • Have a working knowledge of company monitor systems including but not limited to the following: AC systems, rigging hardware, chain motors, company proprietary sound systems, mixing consoles, monitor system drive and control software and hardware, digital recording/playback devices, multi-meters, soldering equipment, IEM systems and RF allocation/integrity test equipment.
  • Maintain an email account and personal device (Cell phone or PC) for communication to the company from the field.
  • Properly test functionality of system and peripheral equipment, optimize system for performance and trouble-shoot any problem areas.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Maintain current training on new technology and equipment related to Sound Image/Clair PA and Monitor systems.
  2. Oversee stage wiring and troubleshoot problems when required.
  3. Mix support acts.
  4. Assist Road Staff Management Department with work schedule data.
  5. Immediately report any on the job employee injuries to the main office. Assist injured employee to receive speedy and professional medical treatment as necessary in the field.
  6. Document any incidents relating to injuries or accidental events that may jeopardize the companies personnel and or equipment. Immediately report any such events to Executive management.

Other duties as may be assigned.


Working Conditions:

Work is typically performed in the field. Normal working show days consists of long hours as needed to complete task. Exposure to all weather conditions including heat, cold, rain and snow. Some heavy lifting is required as is standing for long periods of time. Kneeling, squatting, bending, lifting over the head, pulling, and pushing equipment is routine some of which is heavy. Long work weeks can be expected during the busy season with shop prep and field work sometimes exceeding 60 hours a week.
