Job Summary:
A League Official has the responsibilities of scheduling games, enforcing rules and policies, coordinating with teams and venues, and representing the league to the public. Work involves daily contact with the public. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Job Functions:

a. Officiate Men's, Women's, High School, Middle School, Boys & Girls Basketball, Volleyball, Flag Football, Tackle Football, Baseball and Softball Games and Tournaments.
b. Must be present 15 minutes before start of first game.
c. Notify Recreation Manager 24 hours of schedule game if unable to make assignment.
d. Use good judgment and public relations skills with players and teams coaches.
e. Prepare reports of incidents that occur in City facilities.
f. Employee must be able to enforce rule and regulations of the game with authority
g. Officiate Men's, Women's, High School, boys and girls basketball, volleyball flag football, tackle football, baseball and softball games and tournaments
h. Employee must report to the Recreation Manager for assignments throughout the year.
i. Employee must completely fill out proper ejection reports as necessary in an effort to document incidents that occur on City facilities.
Conditions of Employment:
- Applicant will be subject to a complete background investigation. Incomplete, inaccurate and/or failure to report information will cause the applicant rejection from consideration.
- Applicant must take and pass a pre-employment drug test administered by the City of Edinburg at the City's expense.
- Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
- Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.
Required Education:
Requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational and technical processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.

Required Work Experience:
Experience in various sports.
Experience Preference:
T.A.S.O. (Texas Association of Sport Officials) certified official or an experienced official is preferred.

a. Normally performs the duty assignment after receiving detailed instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results with little room for deviation.
b. Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization.
c. Ability to supervise and control situations in a professional manner that might arise.
d. Customer service skills.
e. Must be able to handle situations effectively that arise on and off the court with coaches, players, and spectators. Employee must have knowledge of the rules for Highs School, NCAA, Little League, and local City of Edinburg Parks and Recreation Department rules and regulations.
f. League Officials need to use good judgment and practice good public relation skills with players and team coaches.

Work Conditions:
Relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. Employee will be required to officiate games in an outside environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; use math and mathematical reasoning; perform detailed work, multiple tasks; work with constant interruptions; and interact with staff and the public.
