Job Summary

Marist College Office of Counseling Services is seeking a full-time clinical counselor with demonstrated passion, commitment, and expertise in working with students from marginalized communities including Black/African American, Latinx/Latine, Undocumented, Indigenous/First Nations, Asian American/Pacific Islander, Multi-racial, and other students of color.

The ideal candidate will have experience and knowledge about the specific developmental, academic, and mental health concerns of students from marginalized backgrounds. This 10-month position involves the provision of a range of services to a diverse student population, including intakes; individual counseling; group counseling; consultations; crisis intervention; on-call rotation; and innovative outreach programming. Counseling Services is committed to enhancing student mental health through accessible, culturally-informed, and affirming care, contributing to a campus culture of inclusiveness, equity, and wellness.

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited program OR Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work or Mental Health Counseling. Must be licensed or license-eligible in New York State, e.g. Licensed Psychologist, LCSW, or LMHC. Candidates seeking supervised post-doctoral experience are also welcome to apply. Demonstrated experience providing clinical services and community outreach to college-aged individuals of color and marginalized identities related to wellness and/or mental health.

Essential Functions:

Provide intakes, individual and group counseling within a culturally responsive and inclusive lens Conduct risk assessments and crisis interventions including facilitating referrals for hospital psychiatric evaluations; consult with involved professionals, college staff, and families when indicated. Develop and implement culturally- and trauma-informed prevention and outreach programs on an array of mental health-related concerns. Collaborate and liaison with campus partners, including participation in campus-wide committees. Participate in emergency on-call rotation after-hours and weekends Provide consultations to faculty, staff, students, administration, and families on student behavioral and mental health concerns through phone and in-person communications. Maintain current, accurate, and timely clinical documentation in accordance with legal, ethical, and professional guidelines and Counseling Services policies using Titanium Schedule electronic records. Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated dedication and attentiveness to social justice issues and intersectionality in serving historically marginalized students as well as a commitment to the ongoing development of cultural competencies. Committed self-care practice to maintain resilience. Strong generalist skills with specialization and/or expertise in interpersonal psychotherapy, DBT, ACT, and/or other evidence-based practices. Interest, experience, and commitment to facilitating groups. Effective at designing/presenting training and outreach programs to students, faculty, and staff. Flexibility in responding to high demand for services and changing program needs. Familiarity with Titanium electronic medical record. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.

Counseling Services is a thriving center providing culturally- and trauma-informed services to undergraduate and graduate students while supporting the greater Marist community. Services include individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, psychiatric services and campus-wide psychoeducational programs/outreach. Our multidisciplinary staff consists of psychologists, clinical social workers, mental health counselors, graduate interns, and psychiatrist.
