As the Product Manager of Home Technology you will play a pivotal role in advancing Progress Residentials' goal to modernize the single-family rental home industry through forward-thinking technology-based rental processes and resident amenities. Reporting to the Home Technology Manager, you will spearhead the development and deployment of home technologies, such as smart home, solar energy systems, internet and TV services, security solutions, self-touring capabilities, and more, enhancing the lives of our residents and empowering our employees. 

This role will initially be focused on enhancing, optimizing, and expanding the rollout of in-flight home technology projects. You’ll become an expert in the technologies, processes, data, and best practices of smart home and other technologies. As the expert, you’ll identify improvement areas, and work with supporting technology & business teams to design and deploy new features & enhancements. You’ll also uncover novel ways of using data from deployed home technology and turn it into actionable real-world value. The initial focus of this role is taking ownership of the ongoing enhancement, optimization, and support of a large smart home deployment. Upon success, your responsibilities may expand into collaborating on and owning other products within the home technology portfolio.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Serve as the product owner for key home technology initiatives

Collaborate with business stakeholders, and utilize your proficient instincts backed by data-driven insights, to identify requirements and opportunities

Monitor internal and external feedback channels to identify areas for improvement related to products you manage

Identify, document, prioritize, and coordinate the development of features, enhancements & bug fixes by partnering with IT engineering, rd party vendors, and field operation teams.

Create basic cost/benefit analysis to aid in the prioritization

Participate in Agile/Scrum sessions with technology teams

Perform UAT testing of features through the development cycle

Provide level- operational support to employees and vendors, partnering with various teams to resolve issues in a timely manner

Coordinate with field operations teams for the deployment and maintenance of deployed home technology hardware

Administrator backend systems, such as application configuration and managing user permissions

Conduct troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and remote analysis of deployed technology & internal systems

Develop written and visual training materials and instruct operational teams (train the trainer) for employees and vendors, empowering them to effectively utilize home technology solutions.

Create reports from data created from home technology devices, cleaning the data as necessary, to identify key trends and opportunities

Evaluate and test physical hardware technologies, ensuring performance and reliability in real-world scenarios and environments

Collaboratively support the Home Technology Lead in other assigned duties, fostering a collaborative and results-driven culture within the team

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in business, technology, or engineering, or equivalent work experience

+ years of experience in product management, process improvement analysis, IT analysis, or similar roles

Strong interest & experience in home technology and IoT products

Experience with product management processes and full-lifecycle product delivery

Experience with Scrum/Agile product development processes and platforms (such as Jira or Asana)

Detail-oriented

Ownership mentality; comfortable being the go-to person for issues and taking responsibility to drive a solution

Proficiency working with data and creating reports in Excel and similar tools

Ability to manage competing priorities across cross-functional partners

Basic understanding of the components which makeup in-home technology platforms and how they work; including networking, hardware electronics, web services, databases, mobile apps, etc.

Familiarity with CRM/ERP tools (ex: Salesforce, Yardi, or similar)

Working knowledge of data integration frameworks such as API, webhooks, file exchanges, etc.

Experience analyzing data and writing basic SQL queries

Ability to "speak the language" of field operations teams to develop plans for installation and maintenance of deployed home technology hardware

Comfortable installing home technology (for example, installing a door lock, wiring a thermostat, installing a video doorbell, or configuring a Wi-Fi router) and creating materials that teach others how to optimally install hardware

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simply articulate complex ideas

Solid analytical, problem solving, and organizational abilities

Computer literacy; ability to comfortably navigate desktop tools, enterprise web tools, and execute programs.

Team player with a strong work ethic and an upbeat attitude

Customer service skills

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail

Lives near a city served by Progress Residential & available to make infrequent trips to local office or local homes owned by the company.

Occasional (%) travel within the U.S.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Advanced knowledge in home technology, IoT, networking, mobile app development, connected product development, or similar

Training or certification in product management or Agile/Scrum

Experience as a technology support agent &/or working with tech support platforms like Helpscout or Zendesk

Experience as a field-staff trainer or role in physical process optimization

Experience working within a start-up/accelerator group within a large organization
