Day in the life of a DevOps Engineer

Each day is a dynamic blend of technical expertise and problem-solving. The typical day begins with a team standup meeting to review what you completed yesterday, what you are working on today, and any difficulties you are running into. A significant portion of the day is then dedicated to items we have committed to completing during the Sprint. Our team does respond to time-sensitive unplanned work. As an example, requests may come in to help with adding/removing employee’s general permissions and/or more specific access to systems that our team maintains (Azure DevOps (ADO), Octopus, AutoRabit). Collaboration plays a key role throughout the day. You will be working closely with Application Development, Networking, Security, and Sys Admin teams to design, code, and deploy cloud infrastructure changes using ADO, Bicep, and Octopus. This collaborative effort ensures that our systems are both scalable, observable, and reliable. You will be routinely involved in the creation and/or maintenance of repositories and YAML pipelines in ADO. The artifacts created in ADO are sent to Octopus. You will then be responsible for creating and maintaining Deployment Projects in Octopus. Releases are then created and deployed in/from Octopus. We typically deploy to Production the evening of each third Thursday. That evening (in Prod) and during the day (NonProd) in the weeks leading up to the third Thursday, you will be responsible for deployments. Senior DevOps Engineers will be expected to perform more architectural level work, coaching/mentoring, and leading problem-solving efforts.

What Experience can you Bring?

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or related field is required. 2+ years as a DevOps Engineer or similar DevOps experience is required. 2+ years of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience required. (Bicep is preferred) 2+ years of scripting experience required. (PowerShell is preferred) 2+ years of CI/CD experience required. (Azure DevOps is preferred) 2+ years of Cloud experience required. (Azure is preferred) 2+ years as Software Developer or Systems Administrator required. 2+ Networking experience required Experience in developing and maintaining Platform as a Service (PaaS) offerings required. Experience in developing and maintaining Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offerings required. Docker/Containers/Kubernetes experience desired. Experience with Octopus Deploy preferred. Agile Scrum experience preferred. 2+ years of experience with Salesforce development and/or deployments preferred.
