A Peer Support Specialist is a vital component to the continuum of care and will serve as a part of the Crisis Stabilization and/or the Mobile Crisis Team at Bowen Center. A Peer Support Specialist can provide non-clinical assistance and added support alongside linkage to resources that may assist with that individual's long-term recovery journey. This position helps to enhance the quality of personal and family life while effectively extending the reach of recovery beyond the clinical setting and into the natural settings of an individual's life. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include:

Assists in providing guidance and support that is self-driven for an individual to identify their own recovery pathway. Assists in providing social connection and overall quality of life. Train and education on health and wellness. Provide connections to information and referrals to community resources. Establish respectful and trusting peer-to-peer relationships.

Knowledge and Abilities:

Ability to perform cultural competence in recovery support.  Ability to collaborate with patients to identify recovery goals. Knowledge of recovery and wellness planning. Ability to adapt to crisis situations Ability to self-promote advocacy and empower patients to make informed decisions about their care.

Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma Certified Peer Support Professional (CPSP) or Certified Addiction Recovery Coach (CARC) OR working towards certification within 30-60 days of employment at Bowen Center Experience: Must meet minimum requirements of DMHA or ICAADA to qualify for a CSPS or CARC Certification Must either have personal lived experience of recovery from substance use - OR - have family members, allies, or loved ones who have lived experience of recovery from substance use, mental health or co-occurring disorders. Must be a minimum of 18 years old.
