Position Details

Position Overview: Bothwell Middle School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Middle School Band Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in music education, with experience teaching band at the middle school level. The Band Teacher will be responsible for instructing and inspiring students in the art of instrumental music, fostering a love for music, and nurturing the talents of young musicians.

Key Responsibilities:

Instrumental Instruction: Teach students how to play various instruments within the band, including brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. Provide individual and group instruction to students of varying skill levels. Curriculum Development: Develop and implement a comprehensive band curriculum that aligns with state and national music education standards. Design engaging lesson plans that cater to the needs and interests of middle school students. Ensemble Rehearsals: Conduct regular rehearsals for the school band, focusing on ensemble playing, musical expression, and technical proficiency. Prepare students for performances at school events, concerts, and competitions. Music Theory and Fundamentals: Teach music theory concepts, sight-reading skills, and fundamental techniques related to playing instruments in the band. Help students develop a strong foundation in music theory and musical literacy. Individualized Support: Provide support and guidance to students on an individual basis, offering feedback, encouragement, and assistance as needed to help them succeed in their musical pursuits. Collaboration: Collaborate with other music teachers, as well as school administrators and staff, to coordinate music programs, performances, and events. Foster a positive and inclusive musical community within the school. Instrument Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and care of school-owned instruments, ensuring that they are properly cared for and repaired as needed. Teach students basic instrument maintenance techniques. Parent Communication: Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding their child’s progress in band class, upcoming events, and opportunities for involvement in the music program.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field. Valid teaching certification/license in Music Education. Previous experience teaching band at the middle school level. Proficiency in playing multiple instruments, with expertise in at least one instrument commonly found in a school band setting. Strong knowledge of music theory, music history, and instrumental pedagogy. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate students. Dedication to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students. Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and community members.
