The School of Civil & Environmental Engineering () at the Georgia Institute of Technology (CEEatGT) in Atlanta, GA invites applications for a full-time Professor of the Practice position. As part of two major grants from the National Science Foundation (Revolutionizing Engineering Departments RED) and the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network (KEEN), the CEE faculty have developed an innovative and integrated spine curriculum that builds students entrepreneurial mindset, increases their sense of belonging, builds team-working skills, and integrates instructional threads throughout their four years of study. This newly created position will be responsible for teaching Capstone Design, as well as other course in the Civil and Environmental Engineering spine (e.g., Data Analytics, Engineering Systems, and Exploring Civil and Environmental Engineering) and courses within the candidate's area of engineering expertise. Applicants for this position shall have a background in engineering practice and in the design of civil and environmental engineering constructed facilities.

CEEatGT's strategic vision () is: We will inspire and prepare the next generation of civil and environmental engineers to solve the world's most pressing challenges and improve the environment and quality of life for all. This position will support faculty development to enable realization of the School's strategic objectives for education. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to faculty development, and the teaching and mentoring of students.

Job Responsibilities

It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be a licensed professional engineer and will leverage their expertise to bring substantial creativity and innovation to teaching without our curriculum. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will participate in the development and operation of new outreach and engagement activities between faculty, students and industry. 

Required Qualifications

At least ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of experience and leadership in the civil/environmental engineering profession. A rich extensive background in fields and disciplines related to the school or college of appointment at the Institute. 

Preferred Qualifications

Terminal degree (PhD or equivalent) in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a closely related field. Experience with developing partnerships with business and industry leaders in the private & public sectors.  National/international reputation for excellence demonstrated by active participation in professional organizations.

Student Success criteria

The ability to mentor and assist students interested in pursuing graduate education.  The ability to design and teach curricula that are responsive to a diverse student body. The ability to adopt teaching strategies that support the learning and success of all students. Has expertise in teaching, scholarship, and/or service that contributes to access, diversity, and equal opportunity in higher education.
