Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill two part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Technical Assistant for the Crop and Soil Science at Oregon State University (OSU).

We have openings for student research assistants in the Soil Carbon and Health Lab at the USDA-ARS. The lab-focused position involves assisting graduate students, support scientists, and post-doctoral researchers in their soil health and carbon cycling projects . The lab is located on campus at 3540 SW Campus Way. Position Duties Duties include processing soil samples (sieving, drying, weighing), prepping for multiple laboratory analyses (e.g., prep chemicals, wash glassware, labeling etc.), and learning how to run analyses from start to finish. We conduct over a dozen soil health and biochemical analyses in my lab.

The student will be trained to make chemical solutions (and properly dispose of chemical wastes), enter data and manage large datasets, and operate laboratory equipment (e.g., LECO dry combustion for soil and plant C and N analyses, Shimadzu liquid and gas analyses for dissolved organic carbon and nitrogen and CO2, Laser diffraction unit for particle size analysis, spectrophotometers, analytical balances, and robotic liquid handlers depending on the skill, interest, and laboratory needs). *International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
