Job Description
The Department of Mechanical, Environmental, and Civil Engineering in the Mayfield College of Engineering welcomes candidates to apply for the Postdoctoral Research Associate position. This is a full-time position renewed on a 12-month appointment basis with a maximum appointment of two years from the date of hire where continued employment is contingent on funding availability. This is a non-faculty research staff position located on Tarleton's main campus in Stephenville, Texas. Working hours are Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm or as work requirements indicate. Requires the ability to teach and/or work remotely at the University’s discretion.
Under direct supervision of the NSF grant Pl/Co-PI at Tarleton State University, this Postdoctoral Research Associate conducts research on air quality and climate change modeling for the Department of Mechanical, Environmental, and Civil Engineering, Tarleton State University.
Responsibilities:
Set up and perform nested WRF-Chem or WRF-CMAQ simulations in cities (Dallas and Houston, Texas) and on a regional scale (focus on the US Gulf Coast region including Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama)
Improve air quality modeling based on observation-based tests of land surface and boundary layer models being conducted by colleagues
Evaluate and document the modeling system in collaboration with the research teams
Develop future emission scenarios that reflect climate and energy policies to assess the air quality and health impacts
Collaborate with research partners ranging from students to senior scientists and from multiple institutions
Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals as both lead and supporting author
Develop research proposals for seeking research funding
Requirements:
Must have obtained a Ph.D. in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Engineering, or a related discipline by the expected hire date.
ABD will be considered at which point evidence of successfully completing the doctorate will need to be provided.
Substantial experience in air quality modeling, such as WRF-CMAQ and/or WRF-Chem, or other large air quality and climate change models
Strong communication and writing skills, ability to multi-task, and ability to work with an array of collaborators
Experience with group management of research computing codes and data management is preferred
