Position Details

Secondary Literacy Coach 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Holds valid Michigan Teaching Certificate. Meets Highly Qualified requirements. Minimum of 5 years successful teaching experience. Experience and training in content literacy instruction. Demonstrated interpersonal relationship skills for working with a variety of departments and content areas. Sufficient knowledge of evidence-based reading research. Has additional professional development in research-based literacy instructional strategies. Knowledge of application of curriculum based measurement and assessment strategies for adolescent learners. Knowledge of and experience with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support. Special expertise in quality reading instruction and ability to determine programs and instructional strategies needed for students based upon achievement data.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Models, observes, and provides regular feedback on instruction. Work with teachers to ensure that evidence-based reading programs are implemented with fidelity. Model effective instructional strategies for teachers. Demonstrates knowledge and experience with leadership of high-functioning PLC teams. Planning for and carrying out individualized and whole group professional development opportunities for adults. Ensure that systems of intervention are systematic, focused and intensive, applied with integrity and quality as designed for positive gains and results. Monitoring oversight of progress monitoring and identification of students in need of intervention tailored to reading needs. Participate in a variety of school and district-level committees and teams. Assume coaching responsibility using a variety of coaching methods (ie. modeling, co-teaching, real-time feedback) and coaching cycles with a results oriented approach Implement ongoing professional development experiences to build capacity for teachers for high impact Tier 1 instruction and student intervention strategies and programs Model intervention protocols and implementation and provide feedback for intervention staff and Teachers Collect, interpret and analyze data to determine student outcomes, inform instructional practices, and coaching and intervention impact Support collaborative team meetings in making data-driven decisions, plan Tier 1 instruction and identify, intervention and instructional strategies Stay current on best practice with MTSS, instruction and student interventions Support staff training for planning, implementation and use of local assessments and progress monitoring All other duties as assigned.

FURTHER DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Training in instructional coaching strategies. (ex: Cognitive Coaching, Adaptive Schools, Coaching ) Knowledge of evidence-based reading intervention programs (ex: Rewards and Read ) Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with all staff and administration. The individual must have the ability to communicate to district-level administration regarding student data and the effectiveness of programs and instruction.

SALARY: Based on Teacher Contract and Salary Schedule

REPORTS TO: Secondary Building Administrators
