POSITION SUMMARY

Pay Range: $33.70 to $48.50

Implements and supervises nutritional aspects of patient care based on assessments of nutritional needs to ensure that quality nutritional care is provided. Counsels individuals and families on an inpatient and outpatient basis on nutritional principles and modified diets to foster compliance and meet their personal needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Performed majority of the time:

· Implements and supervises nutritional aspects of patient care based on assessments of nutritional needs to ensure that quality nutritional care is provided.

· Utilizes order writing privileges to assign diet order.

· Counsels individuals and families on an inpatient and outpatient basis on nutritional principles and modified diets to foster compliance and meet their personal needs.

· Interprets and evaluates and utilizes current research related to nutrition care. Communicates findings to the health care team including physicians.

· Markets clinical services by participating in hospital wellness activities and new programs to promote outpatient services.

· Updates patient nutrition handouts.

Performed occasionally but critical to successful performance of the job:

· Attends departmental meetings and serves on hospital-based committees to improve nutritional services.

· Participates in professional organizations and maintains continuing education to assure personal and professional development and currency of dietetic skills.

· Updates the diet manual and obtains medical staff approval.

· Provides nutrition education as requested to meet community needs.

Decision making and budget responsibilities:

Education:

Required

· Bachelor’s degree with specialization in dietetics, nutrition, or a closely related field and completion of a pre-planned professional experience in dietetics at a facility approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).

Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:

· Registered Dietitian through Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) within six (6) months of hire.

· Demonstrates competent leadership skills in assisting the Nutrition Assistant and Hostess staff with nutrition questions to ensure that patient nutrition standards are met and continually improved.

· Provides meaningful learning experiences for dietetic students.
