Summary / TWC Summary Respiratory Therapy is an allied health profession in which respiratory therapists work under the direction of a physician to evaluate, treat and care for patients with breathing disorders. The Respiratory Therapy Program seeks to prepare graduates with demonstrated competence in the cognitive, psychomotor and affective learning domains of respiratory care practice as performed by registered respiratory therapists .The Respiratory Therapy Program is looking for a dynamic and focused Medical Director to provide competent medical guidance, and to assist the PD and DCE in ensuring that didactic, laboratory and supervised clinical instruction meet current practice guidelines.Per CoARC standards, the RT program must have a Medical Director in place to provide instruction to students, consult with program faculty on curricula matters as well as working in an advisory capacity for the program. The Medical Director serves as a bridge to the healthcare community for the program and act as a liaison for the program within the physician and healthcare communities of interest. The RT Program Medical Director will have responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the Respiratory Therapy Program and the College. The medical director should demonstrate a commitment to the philosophy and mission of the university and the college and be willing to work collaboratively with others in a diverse and inclusive environment.
Essential Duties Summary
Summary Commitment to develop the skills of Respiratory Therapy Students to be educated and productive members of the healthcare team. Act as liaison and advocate for the program with staff, physicians, administrators and other allied health personnel. Assure sufficient physician input in affiliated hospitals and alternate sites. Participate in program curriculum design, evaluation and revision. Assure adequacy of instruction in medicine-related subjects; act as a resource for faculty. Encourage and participate in continuing education of program faculty. Act as an advocate for the program within the healthcare community. Serve on the Advisory Committee for the program . Lecture as mutually agreed upon with the faculty . Participate in student case presentations at the college as scheduled. . Provide opportunities for students to interact with Medical Director in meaningful ways which would emphasize communication, critical thinking, development of patient assessment skill and care pathways. Assist program faculty in developing and/or identifying “model” cases which can be used for teaching purposes. Interact periodically with other affiliate medical directors to ensure continuity and quality of clinical experience Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of: Policies, procedures, and practices. Must have knowledge in the areas of teaching. Sets the standard for principles, methods and procedures in an area and determines long-term direction under his/her guidance. May involve a level of expertise that is recognized both internally and nationally as top notch in the field. Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications. Skill in: Detail oriented. Effective customer service. Problem-solving and decision-making. Excellent interpersonal. Ability to: Must be able to work with a diverse student and faculty population.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
: Board certified in either internal medicine, critical care, pulmonary medicine, emergency medicine, or anesthesia. Minimum 3 years experience. Prior teaching in medical or allied health education.
