Health Aging Intern
 
The Utah Department of Health & Human Services Healthy Aging Program (UDHHS HAP) in partnership with the University of Utah College of Nursing is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented  Intern to contribute to mitigating disparities in chronic disease self-management education (CDSME) delivery in underserved adult populations. Built on a community-academic partnership, the current project will work with a wide range of community partners and community members to understand the systematic barriers in CDSME delivery and co-develop strategies to promote equitable and sustainable delivery of CDSME programs. As an In tern , you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in conducting community-engaged research. Through this opportunity, the  I ntern will be able to enhance their research and community engagement skills.

The position will begin June 2024 and end in March 2025. It will require about 20 hours per week, no more than 1,560 hours.

Example of Duties

Tasks and Assignments

Coordinate with the Principal Investigators and Co-Investigators. Assist recruitment of the Community Advisory Board members and study participants. Coordinate and facilitate meetings with the Community Advisory Board. Coordinate and facilitate focus group discussions with study participants. Assist in the preparation of reports and presentations. Support other research activities (example: literature review) with the study team.  Travel to present findings at a national conference (travel expenses covered).  Integrate as a valued member of the Healthy Aging Program and Living Well Network. Increase organizational knowledge and capacity around culturally responsive evaluation. Provide communication and administrative support as deemed relevant for the project and necessary by the supervisor.  Maintain data privacy

Typical Qualifications

Currently pursuing undergraduate or graduate education or have work experience in public health or related field, preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills. Ability to work both independently with minimum supervision and as part of a team.  Ability to use MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Willing to travel (example: to present at a national conference). Ability to work professionally with colleagues and community members. Dependable. Has an interest in public or community health, health promotion, health education, and/or community-engaged research. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.

Working Conditions:
 

The typical office setting for this job is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. However, you may encounter some risks that are associated with any office setting, for example, the safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc. There will also be risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines, working with contagious diseases or hazardous chemicals, etc. This position is currently a hybrid of both in-office and remote work days. Please note, a position's eligibility for remote work is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time and for any reason.
